Top Ten Best Players With No Shot At The Heisman

This is hard to type, but just a thought.

Berry may be more popular on a national scale than was Peyton entering his senior season. Berry's only a junior and the world of college football loves him. He has extraordinary star power.

I'd like to see Kiffin give him a role on special teams or offensive plays. His HS QB tape is exciting to watch. It's not an NFL-style offense, but when EB has the ball in his hands, it's just exciting. It would be fun to watch a Berry-Oku/Hardesty-Brown option play with Nuke on a quick slant route.

And before anyone says it.. no I didn't want Leach, but a circus while transitioning to a real offense would be more fun than the no offense we saw last fall.

...it's because he's running back interceptions. When we stuck him in on offense a few times last year, he looked extremely tentative.

It's a lot easier to run the ball back against offensive players scattered across the field than it is against 11 returning starters on defense from Florida.

He is a scary scary force on defense, but I think that's where he belongs. Putting him in on offense would simply be a ploy to get him attention for the heisman.

If we have an offense that works like it should, then we don't need gimmicks, and I believe Kiffin said something along those lines in spring practice.

Jones, Hardesty, Nu'Keese, Poole and BB should be able to do what Berry would do on offense. We have enough guys there that we don't need to risk Berry getting injured.

Agreed. I think using Berry on O last year was a bit of a last ditch effort/hope that it would spark the offense... Hopefully this year we won't need to resort to it. Add me to the list hoping he stays on defense.

I agree that Eric Berry with the ball anywhere is positive and will work, however, Brandon Spikes and other sec defenses are different than that team that looks crappy enough that every single one of his highlights were against the same team.

I'm not saying it wouldn't work, its just I'd rather have him get 500+ int. return yds. and TD's and maybe a kickoff return or two.

It's really too bad that Fulmer cost us 2 Heisman trophies this decaded; Manning & Berry.

Ehhh, wouldn't go that far. I think it has to do with lack of love by the Heisman Comittee rather than Phil's coaching.

It's darn hard for a defensive guy to win the Heisman (I know there was that Woodson chump, but look at the Hesiman in its total history). EB is getting love these days as one of the best players in college now, and he certainly desrves it. That's great momentum for high praise and accolades for 2009. If he puts up similar numbers like he has for the past 2 years, then watch out. EB will receive the love he desrves.

I expect a drop in some of his numbers though. I just can't see QBs throwing anything in his direction this year.

I'm not talking about eric berry in high school, I'm talking about eric berry taking the ball on offense in college.

He should be a heisman candidate without a doubt, but risking himself on offense is not worth it.

The whole 'risk' idea is silly. The only risk worth assessing when EB is on the field is the risk he exacts on his opposition.

Don't ever say EB is tentative with the ball in his hands again, or I'll slap the pixels out your post. Understand? :eek:k:

Actually, I'm j/k. That video of EB at QB in high school is one of favorites. He won't win the Heisman playing defense alone. That's simple enough to predict. But give him a few offensive plays and special team play or two... and history shows, it can be done. I'm all for it.

I think EB is NFL HOF material and #14 is next UT jersey that gets retired (long ways off, but we've got 1 more year to worship this guy in an orange jersey, so get on your knees). :p

I agree he is amazing on the football field but not everyone knows him like people know Tebow,Stafford,Sanchez and other people like that. Berry sure does deserve it.

The article said the Vols the past few seasons have been dismal. Does he follow sports.

08 sucked
07 went to SEC Champ game
06 Had a great to season considering Ainge got hurt
05 sucked lack of discipline
04 went to sec champ game with 2 freshman qb's
03 decent
02 decent
01 should of went to play miami for the NC but Chavis couldn't stop Matt Mauk from running up the middle every other play against LSU.

You took issue with the dismal comment?

Berry will get a lot of hype this year. He will be one of the most recognized defenders in the country this year. If he puts up numberse anything close to the last 2 years, and if we have some improvement in our overall record...Eric Berry will be a house hold name around the country
