And I'll ask once again, (3)Newton's pass completion percentage have to be a little skewed since, as you say, teams focused on the run.

(1) Well he is pretty damn good, but his guys were inexplicably wide open 24/7 except for the Florida game.

If you're a quarterback, and teams ignore your arm to focus on your running skills when you're not even that fast, how is that a reflection of how good a passer you are?

Why does it matter how fast you are when you average 5.6 YPC? It's not a reflection of how good of a passer he is, but how valuable the overall package is. I don't give a damn how you complete 66% of your passes for 10 YPA as long as you do it.

Hmm, maybe because college stats don't really matter when you're projecting to a totally different level? Maybe because there have been guys like VY who average 6.8 YPC and don't do much running in the NFL? Maybe because passing is the most important thing an NFL QB can do? But nahhhh. He's definitely going to be putting up those same numbers in the NFL. They're almighty stats, after all.

You're not understanding context here. My point wasn't that he was going to be a good pro, it's actually about Bradford and how wide open his WR's at OU were, and how good they were. The Newton stuff was a tangent (his WR's were open because he could run). If you want the whole story, you're welcome to go back and read.

Bradford put up numbers because he was a really accurate passer. Newton did it because he forced defenses to make pass defense secondary. I get that Oklahoma State had a really bad defense when you watched them one time, but I really don't see how the two are even comparable. Newton's passing ability is what needs to translate, because the whole "total package" thing isn't going to work if he still isn't accurate.

And Okla St's wasn't the only pass D that was bad that year. That was the year where like 9 Big 12 QB's were putting up Ty Detmer type numbers.
