I tell my cousins (well, the ND contingent) that the best thing for ND is to play a Southern Miss or a Wyoming, in a bowl game...They simply aren't good enough to play in the big time against big time teams, though their fans think otherwise

Doesn't matter. ND is the laughing stock of college football.

Your dislike of ND is getting in the way of you understanding my point...Notre Dame will always have a huge share of fans, based on the NBC contract and the history of the school....no matter if Vanderbilt lays 55 on ND one saturday, ND will still have a huge fanbase...informed or not, successful or not, Notre Dame is Notre Dame.

As i said, about being overmatched in the BCS games....it is all about money now, and TV ratings= money..whether it is fair or not, this is the new way of doing things.. a 10-2 Notre Dame will get the bid to the big game, over a better team from another conference, simply because, if ND is playing, the sheep will flock around the shepard for 2 quarters, get the ratings for the network, and what's done is done

ok I see your point now. We're hitting on two different cylinders here. One is economic and one is the success of the team. Notre Dame from a neutral perspective has not succeded in anything unless their goal is getting to a BCS game and losing it. Economically, because they have so many fans, you are correct, they'll make more money and they'll get the BCS bid. Unfortunately they'll lose every time. Notre Dame's other issue from a success standpoint is conference championships because there is no conference championship for Notre Dame. Their only goals are to win a BCS game or win a National Championship. They have failed miserably at both.

which football teams do u guys think have the greatest support from around the nation.. Basically, which teams are the most popular, the fans favorite. or have the biggest fan base?

My opinion of the most well known/popular football programs:

1) Texas: There are Texas football fans no matter what state your in. they have an absolute HUGE fanbase..

2) Ohio State

3) Florida: their stock has raised a tremendous amount because of the NC.. and the fact that the other florida schools (Miami and Florida State) have been playing sub-par.

4) Michigan

5) Tennessee: the tradition is phenomenal, the fans for UT are so passionate

6) Miami

7) Alabama

8) LSU

9) Florida State

10) Georgia

all in all, how do u guys like this list.?

Notice that your top 3 are 3 of the largest universities in the nation. I think UCLA is the only one that might be bigger than any of those... and maybe Texas A&M (who should also be on that list). So no surprises there.

I would agree with an earlier poster, however, in that many Texas fans are VERY fair weathered. The Texas ego is too big to support the program unless it is successful. But as of late they have reasons to be happy as they contend for the conference title every year in almost every sport. Not to mention the NC in football.

OSU also has tremendous support but my opinion is that they are not as fickle as Texas.

Florida is the johnny come lately, new money and no class fan base. They don't deserve their success. And yes, I'm jealous of that success.

And Notre Dame would have to be on that list, regretably.
