Agreed but we still have a solid class coming, especially on defense. I feel like we have done better on that side of the ball than on offense.

Yeah, I think that I am down-playing Nico since it was so far back in the process. That was by FAR our biggest addition. However, I feel like we have a little more talent on defense than on offense. We missed some of our big offensive grabs but we made up with it by great second picks.

With our staffs development capabilities, getting a 5 or 4 star can really go far! Our 3 stars go in the right direction too!

The days of having the LOI signed in February, and all the rankings coming out on that day are over. Having said that, with the transfer portal, early signing date (Dec?), NIL, kids getting offers in Jr. High and committing to the class of 2035 or thereabouts, I'm finding it difficult to really understand exactly when "this class" (2023?, or are we on 2024 yet?) is solidified along with the rest of the other schools. Maybe I'm lazy and haven't done all my homework, but it seems recruiting doesn't stop. Boom threads can happen year round.

Anybody else suffering from this confusion, or is it just me?

I feel you there. I believe its a race to see which school can adapt to the current environment fastest- all others left behind. It's A LOT to keep up with. We went as low as 23 nationally at one point and now we are number 5- who is left for us to recruit?

Agree we will still probably get passed by Bama/GA but its still nice say that now. Been a long time we could even say it at all.

Some folks ASSUME Bama and UGa are gonna come on strong late.

That assumption might've been valid in the past...but with NIL in full swing, it may absolutely no longer be valid.

How things are right now could be how things end up, or close.

About half of the 5-stars in the 2023 recruiting class remain in play. I counted 15 of them. Of those, UGa is only in the competition for 6. Bama is in the running for 6 as well. MOST OF THOSE ARE THE SAME 6, and they both can't get them. Oh, and btw, Ohio State, Oregon, Miami, Notre Dame, Michigan, and Clemson are all in the hunt for most of those same guys, too. I explicitly mention Miami, because they are (like us) showing what happens when you learn fast how to succeed at NIL.

So are those two programs each going to end up with 5 to 8 five-stars, as they have in recent years? UGa's only got 1 so far; Bama only has 2. It is quite possible they each end up with just 3 or 4.

It is also quite possible we've seen the end of Bama-UGa-Clemson-Ohio State recruiting dominance. It is quite possible the talent is being spread out much more evenly, as we watch NIL take hold.

Okay, okay, Tennessee probably won't end up with a higher-rated 2023 class than Bama when all is said and done. Things are changing, but maybe not THAT fast.

But we may be awfully close. Starting right now. This year.

Yes, the NIL will change Bama's recruiting more so than any other school, IMO. $50,0000 cash and a new car under the table don't get it anymore, and I'm not sure Bama has as many resources available. Ironic isn't it, when transactions occurred under the table, Bama's the best; have been since the 60's. Now that NIL has things above board, Bama will struggle some..........

Idk. Offense has addressed every position pretty well. Oline looks decent and in position to add some more there. TE is one of the best in the country there. We missed on Tate and a few at wide receiver but we’ve added a lot of speed at the position and look ready to add more. Qb position is a little shaky but can’t have everything. (Hope everyone can detect sarcasm there. RB is the only question mark for me.

Every school has documentation on where every car a player has was bought, how it was paid, where the money came from, etc. If this was happening it could have been easily proven.

Gave you a like as good info as limited 5* players remain. Are the Vols in the mix for any of the 5* players that remain?

it’s imperative that TN wins a minimum of 8 games to show progress compared to last yr. Anything below and we may lose some of our commits. The same goes for most schools.

I didn't see Tennessee listed for any of those 15, no. But the lists I looked at may not have been complete.

As for wins, I think we have a pretty good shot at getting 9 this year. In the regular season. Go Vols!
