Top 5 Chosen For Heisman Watch List

Honestly, it's pretty damn impressive that he's even in the top 5, being a DB.

Berry has no shot at being a finalist unless UT wins 10+ games. Also, he will have to play some offense. I don't think either will happen.

I was surprised to see 3 other defensive players on the list. Not really surprising that Taylor Mays was listed though. Pretty cool that Berry got 11 votes to his 2.

Agree with the win total, but I think Berry could do it without playing offense. He would have to have his biggest year yet, with multiple pick-6's and timely big plays against legitimate competition, but it could happen in my opinion.

another preseason ranking that is quite laughable...the reining heisman winner is ranked 3rd in this poll, granted tebow has won one also, but how does bradford get put third on this list :eek:lol:

way to go all you espn "experts"

Most likely it's because Tebow is in the best position to win it. Since Florida is projected to be the most successful team this year, it's only logical that Tebow is in the best position to be the most successful individually.

How? Because after watching the national title game, the voters had buyer's remorse. That's how.

I disagree...about him not having a change, not about us winning 10+ games.
In this Tampa 2, he'll get a lot of tackles, and will be possibly an even bigger part of our defense.
With CLK's hype and EB's ridiculous numbers (potentially), he just might have a chance at getting invited to the ceremony.

Being in the Top 3 would be a significant achievement.

What you're seeing in these Heisman stories is tacit acknowledgment by media-types that Berry is, with the possible exception of Tebow, the best football player in the country. They're talking about him now because they know he has no shot to win the award.

I mean, even if he ends up making some spectacular plays on offense or special teams to go with his usual magnificent defensive play, it's not going to matter much because nobody's going to see it. How many times are we likely to play on national TV this year? Maybe just twice, even, and with both games in September. The rest of the season's just going to be Tebow Tebow Tebow and the battle in the Big 12. There's just not going to be enough air left over in October and November for Berry to get any serious exposure, no matter how fantastic he is.

The only way that Berry ends up holding the trophy in NYC is if A) the Vols shock the world and win in Gainesville, with Berry making a few jaw-dropping plays; B) Tebow, McCoy, and Bradford all end up having relatively pedestrian, statistically unimpressive seasons; and C) Florida, Texas, and Oklahoma are all disappointing, with none of the three teams making it to the title game.

The likelihood of all of those things happening is so minuscule that it's really not even worth talking about.

I absolutely hate pre-season awards.... Yesterday on ESPN they announced who was on the Davey Obrien watch list...who makes the cut...Aaron Corps???? The kid has thrown like 10 passes in college and now he's on the list for the top QB in America.

Plus, all this does is give an advantage over any other player who is not on this list. I hate preseason polls, due to the fact of what happens to teams not ranked...Say Tennessee goes 4-0 and we beat Florida. We'll be ranked #22 and Florida will still be in the Top 10. There shouldn't be a poll come out until Halloween weekend. This lets the cards fall where they may and then you have 1 month to either win your way in or lose your way out...

we could also have Tebow fatigue and some sort of backlash. I think there was Manning backlash as well as the ESPN factor when he didn't win. The problem this time is the fact there are other QB options for the award.
