Top 5 All Time Vols

Gault inclusion so much baffles me. Not even close to the best receiver of the 80s. Return man with occasional bomb on O, but had suspect hands to say the least.

Pickens, McGee and Morgan are hands down greater football players.

Here's 10 that did well after TN football:

Willie Gault (on a Super Bowl winning team and world class speed)

Carl Pickens (NFL rookie of the year and Bengals record holder)

Peyton Manning (of course)

Tim Mcgee (led NFL in rookie year in return yards)

Albert Haynesworth (2 time pro bowler)

Al Wilson (5 pro bowls)

Jamal Lewis (1 of 5 to rush over 2k yards in a season and the single game record)

Reggie White (of course)

John Henderson (2 pro bowls)

Dale Carter (5 time pro bowler)

Can't believe nobody mentioned Big John Henderson. The year he won the outland was the most dominant I have ever seen by a TN d-tackle since Reggie.

I think Willie Gault is a perfect example of a good college player, that became great once he turned pro. The man could burn! But not top 5 at UT

Good call on this one....Big John was a Big Ugly. Most lineman dont ever get any of the glory. He was incredible!

1) Peyton Manning the obvious number 1. Best NFL QB ever also.

2) Reggie White - Total Beast

3) Carl Pickens - Awesome playmaker, Ochocinco just passed him for the Bengals all time in Touchdowns.

4) Al Wilson - Tough as nails

5) Charlie Garner - Heart

* My personal favorite is none other than The "Tee Martin" - He led us to the Title.

These lists are always difficult so I cannot keep it to 5. We can all argue for years. In no particular order....
Peyton Manning Gene McEver Harry Galbreath
Reggie White Beattie Feathers Tim Priest
Doug Atkins John Henderson Carl Pickens
George Cafego Steve Delong Heath Shuler
Bob Suffridge Eric Berry Bob Johnson

Honorable Mention
Hank Lauricella
Al Wilson
Reggie Cobb
Dale Jones
Carl Pickens
Willie Gault
I cannot give any love to Jamal Lewis or Travis Henry due to their off-field issues. I know I will catch some heat for that.

Gault really was a burner but a lot of people kinda get a bit carried away with how he is remembered. The best season he ever had as a pro was 50 receptions for 985 yards. Interestingly this was as a Raider in '90 and not a Bear. In fact in the Bears SB season Gault only had 33 catches for 704 yards and 1 TD. For his 11yr career he averaged 30 receptions for 603 yards and 4 TD's.

1.Peyton Manning He is by far the greastes vol of all tim
2.Erich Berry He combined speed and power, would either pick off a pass or light up a reciever.
3.Doug Adkins Was a force during his time
4.Johnny Majors/Willie Gault The two most athletic players in school history
5.Reggie White/Al Wilson They were both great athletes who you didnt wont to hit, played with more heart then anybody elseon the field.

I really don't know how these ever happen without Doug Atkins.

Grandfather has watched the Vols for 50+ years and says that Doug Atkins is hands-down the best player in Vols history. Good enough for me.

I should had went deeper on my list. 3 of the guys on my list I grew up watching and one coach but didn't get to see him play or Reggie White!! Man we have SO many legends that go years and years back it's very hard to list them all lol. One things for sure that the Gators can't list maybe one or two before the emmitt smith era ha ha!!
