It seems clear we are the 2nd best team in the East right now. We beat UK at their place and Florida has fallen apart. Mizzou and Carolina suck. I don’t even need to comment on Vandy. We scored more on uga than any opponent this year.

In the West, sure bama is better. LSU, Ms St and Auburn aren’t. Arkansas lost by way more to uga than us. A&m just lost to an Ole Miss team that we only lost to because of the refs. Maybe we would be 2nd in the West as well, but no worse than 3rd.

If Heup has gotten us into the top 4 of the SEC with this reduced roster in his first year, imagine what he will do with an extra offseason with these players and a more complete roster? We’re about to be 7-5 with a shot at 8 wins with the bowl. Uga will lose their entire defense to the nfl. Who can challenge this offense next year in the East? We have a strong chance at being in the thick of the SEC East race in 2022. The future looks bright my friends!

No just no. Have you seen Georgia’s 2022 recruiting class probaly going to be 1 or 2 so they aren’t going anywhere they just reload at this point .Alabama is Alabama enough said as long as Saban is there and of course there is Florida who has been in our heads forever it seems and even with a lame duck coach in Mullen returning I def wouldn’t bet on us beating them in Knoxville. We lose a good bit from this season so it could be a rebuilding season in 2022 so 6-6 to 7-5 is likely on the table def not winning the East

What were you thinking this season was going to be like back in August? 7-8 wins? A lot around here were saying 4 wins. Heup has exceeded all expectations and I don’t see any reason to think that won’t continue.

Pruitt’s not the coach anymore y’all! Hope endures!

Yes but reasoned expectations must endure also.

We are still under a NCAA cloud and we have to play Bama AND UGA every year.

Long ways off from an SEC Title or East crown even

Not even close. We need to kill it in recruiting and in the portal. We are on a par with most of those you mentioned. It will be a very difficult climb.

What is the internet meme? “Tell me that you have no idea how to evaluate college football teams without telling me that you have no idea how to evaluate college football teams?”

With the exception of UGA, the rest of the SEC East is 1-8 versus the SEC West. And Vanderbilt, Missouri and South Carolina are the SEC East teams with remaining interdivisional games.

We've made a big stride forward this season, when most folks thought we'd be falling backward still.

We'll make more strides toward our goals next year. Next season will be even more fun and encouraging than this year has been so far.

But will it be enough to challenge for the East? Impossible to know. Georgia's lead in talent is quite considerable. We'll make up ground on them, but I just don't know if it will be enough to win the East. In 2022.

But whether it takes one more year or a couple, we're coming. And they know it.

Threads like this are dangerous. It just shows how irrational our fanbase can be. JH has done wonders, WONDERS, in year 1. But to say that means he’ll be sending us to Atlanta in year 2 is just silly. We still don’t have the depth necessary to make that step. To feed the waters of illusion instead of reality is what got us from burning mattresses to throwing trash onto Neyland. Year 2 will most likely be similar to year 1 under JH with maybe an upset win that gets us 8-4 instead of the more likely 6-6 or 7-5 outcome. By setting such a high bar of an Atlanta trip, you’re already putting him on the hot seat for year 3, which is something we cannot afford to do. Now, OP, I hope and pray you’re correct and I’m terribly wrong, but let’s not get too crazy.

31! There were 31 transferred from Tennessee. Some 4 and 5 stars among them. Even if Heupel could bring in a class in the top 5 this year, We still are not at the level of Georgia, Alabama, or maybe A & M. Even if he brings in some decent players from the portal, he is still hamstrung compared to the top teams. There is no magic wand to wave, it's just gonna take probably 2 or 3 very good recruiting classes to get close to par. If Heupel can keep Tennessee playing the way they have this year, it's a very good possibility he can start pulling in top 5 classes, and at my age, I hope we don't demand firing him if it takes longer than 3 years to show marked improvement.

I can buy we're the second best team in the SEC East but I'm not sure that means a whole lot because the gulf between #2 and Georgia is pretty big right now. I think our best hope is Smart starts doing some Stoops impressions, which he has in the past.

Unfortunately depth is the thing that needs to be built. Georgia and Bama can go to all second stringers and still be fine. Our depth on OL and RB costs us on offense and depth on LB is scary. Hopefully the next 2 years we can start catching up.
