Top 35 Plays of 2015: #8 – Von Pearson’s Catch

Hard to imagine 7 plays more important in 2015 than this one...

Most of the remaining seven could easily be from the UGA game, the punt that downed itself at the one, the TD pass just a few plays after Pearsons fourth down conversion here, swatting the last UGA attempt out of the air. Everything after this catch right here was so clutch in that game.

I guess I'm just being paranoid lol. I don't want anyone knowing Butch's concepts lol

There is nothing in the book that hard working knowledgeable SEC coaches do not already know. Book was written to help fans understand and enjoy the game.

The UGA game was full of weird plays.

Chubb goes down play #1. Tuttle goes down due to a dirty hit.

Dobbs throws a pass that gets tipped and picked.

Goal-line fumble that went for six the other way. 14-point swing for UGA.

Punt return with a flag that should have been called back for UGA.

Erase those two scores and it's 10-10 instead of 24-3.

However, we also had good fortune on Reggie Davis's dropped TD pass, Pearson's 4th down catch, Smith's 4th down TD, and UGA's kickoff return fumble. Plus Daniel's half-yard line punt.

Still, Jancek did his best to give the game away. Yet again, he rushed only 3 on UGA's last desperation heave to the end zone. Same play that killed us vs UF on 4th and 14.

The more we talk about last year the more I appreciate Butch conservative play calling! The D wasn't ready to close games

Pearson saved Dobbs? Dobbs accuracy was not the problem. Pearson was expected to take one step and slant out. The ball was exactly on the money had the right route been ran.

I have no problem dropping 8 in that situatIon.

exactly you rush 4/blitz when you are trying to catch up not when you are protecting a lead. Dropping 8 is the safe/correct call that 99% of coaches would make I would bet you our current DC would have made the same call. Way too many people seem to have learned their football strategy on tecmo bowl and madden for my tastes.

You are right. This play is probably the most important. Others may be more exciting, but VP's catch saved the season.
