25. Tennessee DB Evan Berry

Top time: 10.57 in 100-meter dash (high school, 2013)
While his track numbers from high school aren't at the level of the rest of this countdown, Tennessee return man Evan Berry deserves a spot for how well he uses his incredible speed.
Berry led the nation in kick return average last season, taking them back at a 38.29-yards-per-touch clip and scoring three touchdowns. On defense, he had a 100-yard pick-six to cap a rout of Northwestern in the Outback Bowl.
The Tennessee special teams speed demon comes from a family of athletic stars—his older brother is star NFL safety Eric Berry—and he had a strong track career during his high school days in Georgia. The Volunteers have recruited a lot of speed to Knoxville under Butch Jones, and Berry is the one that sticks out the most for his prowess as a return man.


Cam Sutton made honorable mentain also.

I personally think Evan should be higher.

These slideshow things are a waste of time.....all they want you to do is click through 10-15 screens so that you have every opportunity to see the advertisements on the top, bottom, sides and even popping up in front of the main image. I for one did not even start the slideshow. They should pay us to pick on them.....

No kidding. I hate that online trend that everybody seems to be doing now. Seems like any list has the slideshows

Its terrible. They always have little snippets of info that could apply to any decent athlete.

This list isn't even fair. The base every single player on different types of times. Some are 40 yd dash times. Some are 55 yd dash times. Some are 60 yd dash times. Some are 100 yd dash times. That's not right!

Make it fair & use the same timing system. They also used a few old times(high school) for a few players as well. I wouldn't put much into this list.

Evan Berry is clearly not the 25th fastest player in college football for 2016. More like top 10 for him. He runs away from everybody on his kick returns. There is no catching him once he gets in the open field.

I will say that incoming freshman Tyler Byrd is very very close to Evan Berry in speed. I think their 40 times are .02 seconds apart. Of course, Tyler Byrd's is from high school while Evan's last 40 time was probably his freshman or sophomore season at UT.

McCaffrey only on the Honorable Mention list? I thought that dude could absolutely fly.

No, Foreman isn't our faster player & never has been. I'm pretty sure Evan Berry has been for the past two seasons. Kamara isn't far behind & newcomer Tyler Byrd's high school 40 is .02 seconds behind Evan Berry's.

The story obviously favored track times over 40 times which gives it more credibility as only the former has any genuine claim to cross referenceable accuracy. The different examples cited (55,60,100,hurdles) do make direct comparison iffy but an elite time at any given distance is still a viable reference point.

The thing with Berry is that while he may not actually be as fast as some in the absolute sense his ability to utilize his speed is obviously elite to anyone that's watched his return game.

He did win the speed drills.

But his fastest time ever was 10.69 in the 100 and was wind aided.

Berry ran a 10.57...

Watching Abernathy lead block for him on kick offs...and Berry doesn't gain on him, even after blocks, makes me think...we have speed on reserve. Watch out for that guy. Write it down

I am fairly sure I could run a 5.2 40 after 12 weeks of PEDs. You guys think there is any hope for me to walk-on and make this list next year?
