He was just on with Bill King and predicts the Vols D will finish #12 in the nation. Likes the talent, depth, and scheme.

If UT has the #12 D in the country then they will win the East.

Agree. I doubt we'll be that high though. Barring injury, they could be a solid group by years end, but with the complete overhaul of the defense, I think the first several games may be pretty rough. We'll be leaning heavily on the offense for a while IMO.

Top 30 again. Top 12 is a jump that i hope for......but seems unreachable in a new defensive scheme year.

Like the previous poster said, if UT has that good of a defense we'll be playing in Atlanta for the SEC Championship.

He also said this about tonights game...

Tennessee will win toss-up game over NC State
Every week I will pick a game that Las Vegas and the nation rate as a toss-up, and this week's game takes place in the Georgia Dome on Friday night between the Tennessee Volunteers andNorth Carolina State Wolfpack (Tennessee is favored by 3).

Everyone has had a knee-jerk reaction to the dismissal of Tennessee wide receiver Da'Rick Rogers, but keep in mind that Justin Hunter was the Vols' leading receiver prior to his injury last year, and the team added one of the best junior college transfers in the country in WR Cordarrelle Patterson. Tennessee will also have one of the most improved rush offenses in the nation this season, which should help QB Tyler Bray and the passing game even more.

While NC State picked up eight wins a year ago, it came against the No. 71-rated schedule, and the Wolfpack did lose to Cincinnati 44-14 (in fairness, they were banged up), while a healthy Tennessee squad beat the Bearcats 45-23 in Week 2. I have great respect for NC State QB Mike Glennon and CB David Amerson, but this is still an ACC versus SEC matchup, and I think Tennessee has the more complete team.

Steele is about the only one I respect, and that's because he does his homework. However the quote you posted doesn't read like Steele's normal writings, mostly because it was legible and I didn't have to spend half of my time reading it trying to figure out what all the acronyms mean.

What, a preview without mentioning how Bray is injury prone and tried to brain a coed from the top of Neyland stadium with a full beer?

Phil Steele = sunshine pumping Doolaid drinker.

I think the change will equal an immediate improvement. Our D players seem to be built more for a 3-4 scheme.
