1) Derek Barnett- Too soon? Tell that to the SEC last year when he complied 22.5 tackles for loss as true freshman.

2) Josh Dobbs- With his head, arms and feet, completely changed the chemistry of our offense and football team overall. We can play with anybody if we have Dobbs with a full cast.

3) Curt Maggitt- Has been around a while and has done all the right things. Finally healthy last year, he showed what he could do while leading the team in sacks with 11.

4) Cam Sutton- one of the top CB's in all of college football and dangerous return man. Don't throw his way or run his way, because he will shut it down.

5) Jalen Hurd- Maybe the most talented player on the team, he provides a physical style of running we have not seen since Jamal Lewis. And he can block like a TE...

6) Jaylen Reeves-Maybin- Year one: special teams demon. Year 2: 101 tackles and a steady presence for our linebacker core. Year 3? All-SEC I imagine.

7) Brian Randolph- 240 tackles, 6 ints and 10 pass break ups and still has a year to play.

8) Alton Howard- Small but explosive and tough. 600 yards receiving and 100 rushing last year. Look for his tds numbers to increase with a healthy QB and improved line play. Speaking of improved O-line play

9) Jason Robertson- Started every game at RG for the whole season as true freshman, and is possibly the strongest person on the team. Speaking of strength...

10) Kahlil McKenzie- Yep! You better buy into the hype now, because he is the real deal! Benches well over 400 pounds and will start at DT as a true freshman. Monster!

There is my top 10. Maquez North would be top 5 had he stayed healthy imo.

Whats is your top 10?

I was gonna say something about North until I read the last line, I think Pearson (if not suspended) would fall in the same category.

I wouldn't include any freshmen, no matter how promising. Gotta give at least a year to the Orange and White before eligible for this kind of list, imho. :)

So in no particular order (other than defense first): Cam Sutton, Derek Barnett, Jalen Reeves-Maybin, Brian Randolph, Curt Maggitt, Jashon Robertson, Josh Dobbs, Jalen Hurd, Aaron Medley, Ethan Wolf, and Pig Howard.

Yes, I cheated and snuck in an 11th. But I just had to give a nod to our Special Teams guys by including Aaron. :)

Other than that, only difference between your list and mine is Ethan Wolf instead of KMac.

Go Vols!

Nah JP. I hear what you're saying tho for sure. I just believe K-Mac will make it apparent very quickly that he is a force. I foresee a Circle of Life drill in which he bests Jashon Roberson!

My list is my view of top players as it actually is, or how I think it to be. Next year guys like TK. Jr and Maybe even Preston Williams will get a spot :)

Haha, Little, yeah. I have to confess, I almost cheated even more and rounded mine up to an even dozen by including Matt Giampapa ... just because the poor long snappers never get any recognition at all, and Matt's done such a good job for us! :)

I thought Pig should have a spot too. Good choice, in my opinion.

There's so many different candidates you can put in the 6-10 range. That speaks volumes on Butch upping the talent level on The Hill.

Derp. I didn't see Pig on your list the first time. Not used to the Alton usage. Whoops!

Guys like LaDarrel McNiel, Marquez North, Alvin Kamara could all make a case for being top 10.

We have some very good talent.

It's been rumored Jalen is nearing 240lbs, if he doesn't lose any speed he's gonna be a runaway freight train. Whew!

Tough considering the amount of talent on this football team. Most of our lists will probably look very different from one another just because they are so talented.

1.) Cam Sutton
2a) Curt Maggit
2b) Derek Barnett
4.) Jalen Hurd
5.) Joshua Dobbs
6.) JRM
7.) Randolph & McNeil duo
8.) Jashon Robertson
9.) Pig Howard
10.) Todd Kelly Jr.

Ethan Wolf was hurt most of last year as was North so they didn't make the cut

Von being suspended keeps him off the list for now.

My list is based half off of absolute talent (at present), and half off of how valuable they will be to us this year.
1) Cam Sutton
2) Josh Dobbs (Barnett is better, but Dobbs is much more vital this season)
3) Derek Barnett
4) Jalen Hurd
5) Curt Maggitt
6) Jalen Reeves-Maybin
7) Marquez North
8) Alvin Kamara
9) Pig Howard
10) Jashon Robertson (makes it because of the 2nd half of the equation).

Just missed: Khalil, Randolph, and Pearson.

Having Hurd ahead of Dobbs is questionable to put it nicely. Did you see last season at all? Did yoiu watch the team go from average to pretty darn good upon his entrance into the Bama game? All of your players deserve to be on the list, but having any offensive player ahead of Dobbs is loco

I don't think it is really that crazy. When Hurd went down against Vandy the offense looked awfully pedestrian again. I think they need each other more than some think.
I'd probably still have Dobbs ahead. But not by much.

As much as CBJ wants to throw that "CEO QB" term around about Dobbs - Jalen Hurd is the unquestioned leader of this football team. If he goes down we are in big trouble. Especially from a vocal leadership standpoint.

Besides, it's not like I have Dobbs in the bottom half or out of the top 10 completely.

Calm down buddy.

Fair enough. I'm just glad they both wear orange!

Surprised I'm the only one who included Todd Kelly Jr.

He had a great year and the sky is the limit moving forward.

Calm down? Do I seem fired up or out of control? I merely pointed out that Dobbs shouldn't be behind Hurd. Its not even really debatable. The offense needs them both, but we likely beat FL and maybe GA with Dobbs last year. Our offense would suffer a blow without Hurd, sure, but it would struggle to tread water without Dobbs. Its pretty cut and dry

I'm not ready to put him in the top 10 right now. That said, he has the potential to crack the top 5 by this time next year. The pic he had in the Vandy game last year was crazy
