The Donkey Kong Country series had some of the best original music in gaming, even by today's standards. Top 10 soundtrack easily.

I went to my parents house the other day and busted out my old SNES and played some DKC. It was awesome.

List is also crap without Final Fantasy IV (aka FF II). A score that to this day still holds up.

I remember the Simon theme from Castlevania. That game was awesome, and good music all around.

Final fantasy series does have some nice tunes.

Three of the really good ones got left out from that series though:

Aquatic ambience: Donkey Kong Country OST 9 Aquatic Ambiance - YouTube (my personal favorite, i'd debate this and the 3rd one here with gangplank galleon, aka King K Rool theme - which was also very good)

I still play DKC on the SNES regularly. My mom begs me to play every time I go over there lol. She has a Wii now with DKC so we have been playing that instead.
