Is Neyland not that loud, or is it the fact that UT hasn't defended their home field?

And Cal on there is a joke. A third of the people at the game were Vols fans.

Neyland is un-Godly loud at times.

Not beating SEC teams in Neyland seems to be the problem

generally the scariest places have little to do with the stadium and more to do with the quality of the team defending their home turf. LSU wasn't that daunting during the DiNardo days.

During last years Cal-UT game, I sat in the Cal section. Everyone of their fans looked shell-shocked at the noise when we ran through the T. Parents were covering little kids' ears.

I thought the Cal fans did that when the crowd prayed before the game

They may have then too. I know that the people in front of us were covering their son's ears when it got really loud. As for when we were praying, I have no idea, I had my eyes closed.

I was watching the Cal/Oregon game via the internet, and that crowd at Oregon was the loudest (TV loud) that I have heard a stadium get. I mean deafening.

Speaking of Cal, didn't a poster on here question the tomatoes growing under the bleachers? Or was I just drunk and still shrooming?

I was at the Cal game and thought it was pretty loud ... BECAUSE they were piping in noise over the damn loudspeakers while we were trying to call plays!!

Other than that, I wouldn't put it in the Top 10.

I have only been to the Swamp and Tiger Stadium of the places on the list and those two are ridiculously loud/crazy atmosphere. On a consistency basis during a game, I would give it to those two over Neyland.

My parents said the same thing when they got back.

Cal's stadium sits on an earthquake fault that could erupt any second -- that's the very definition of a scary stadium.

1. LSU, Tiger Stadium
Three SEC coaches I spoke with who have worked in other leagues say that Tiger Stadium is, by far, the loudest stadium in the country. "It's night, half the place is loaded, the fans have been partying for like 20 hours straight, this is the last place you want to bring a young QB into," says one coach. Just ask Virginia Tech, which got blown out of the Bayou a few weeks back. Last season, the Tigers jumped on everyone early at home; they outscored their opponents 108-7 in the first quarter at Death Valley. This year, they've outscored their opposition 31-7 in the opening quarter. The margin's 68-7 if you just look at the first half.

This place is scary ever since Rick Clausen led us to a come from behind victory, and Phil Fulmer said that Rick Clausen was the best story in America things have not been good here.....I think we've been put under a curse

I'm not trying to be a homer here but, the list needs Kyle Feild. Granted the Aggies are not what they used to be, but this is about the fans and the stadium, or at least I think it is.?. aTm at home, with the 12th MAN, midnight yell the night before, the Corps, along with a sea of maroon. Not the most enviting atmosphere for opponents.

Hardest place to play doesn't neccesarily mean loudest. Cal's 19-2 at memorial in the past 21 games. Pretty good. I do agree it probably doesn't deserve top-10 though. SC should be up there these days. That place is intimidating. Just look at the record.

How about places to watch in the near future...I would put Indiana's Memorial Stadium on that list...Hoepner had this massive piece of limestone brought in and now call the stadium THE ROCK...it's pretty rowdy on gameday...and IU is starting top defend it pretty well too.

Others I would consider for the "to watch" list...Commonwealth Stadium at UK and Huskies stadium at Washington.

And because it shows up in every other thread on here...Neyland once we get our new coaches...:p

Memorial Stadium will become one of the 10 Scariest places to play when about 80 of the 119 D-I schools tear their stadiums down.
