Tool - Schism (Official Video) {HD 720p} - YouTube

This is some Justin's best work. I would have loved to see this come together in the studio. There are endless Meter Changes and you have to listen to it many times to pin down the Time Signatures. Breaking it down is like peeling a damn onion. I wonder how long it took them to piece it together.

I can understand why it takes them so long to make an album. These guys are a truly rare thing to see when they play.

The Bassline Justin lays at the beginning is what makes this song a classic.

Maynard's got 2 other bands. Puscifer just released one in 2011, APC is supposed to be end of 2012 I think. And I believe Adam Jones has a side project or 2. Also, I think they like to really fine-tune their work. It won't be a disappointment.

Edit: Oops, I thought you said "can't". Nevermind that.

Yeah I love A Perfect Circle. Mer de Noms is one hell of a album.

Chris Pennie is probably my personal favorite. I've only got about three years of drumming under my belt though, and guitar is my main deal.

When I was playing, the ride section starting at 1:02 and going through the next minute or so to the blast beat was one of my favorites to warm up with

What was the first song you ever learned. Nothing like learning that first song. When you finish it you know your going to become the next Tommy Lee.

What do you guys think about Terry Bozzio and the largest drumset known to mankind? That dude is pretty bizarre, but incredibly talented.

To be honest I don't remember the first song. When I started, my brother had just joined the HS drum line and I stole his syncopation book and just started going to town on a practice pad.

Something else that Carey has long integrated into his arsenal are electronic triggers. He is by far, by a mile, the best and a pioneer in his addition of digital triggers to layer his sound even more so and to more importantly pull off some of his insane production live without a hitch or tricks.

Here's a video I stumbled upon a couple of months ago. I'm in love with it. Probably one of the best original covers I've ever heard on YouTube and the girl is stunning too.

Saw them in Honolulu last year, better than when I saw them the first time. Go see them if they're anywhere near you!

He uses seven electronic drum pads around his kit, co-designed by him and Vince DeFranco. These pads are high resolution position and velocity sensing drums called Synesthesia Mandala Drums, and have replaced the various Simmons SDX pads formerly in his setup. He uses a program called Battery, from Native Instruments, on an Apple Mac G5 to manage the samples. Additionally, he uses a Korg Wave Drum, a Roland Handsonic and a few electronic pedals.

Carey's "Drumtree" kit, cost about $70,000 to make and the cast bronze bass drum weighted close to 700 pounds after pulling it out of the mold, and after lathing it was lowered to about 100 pounds.

Also Maynard's writing is just amazing. 46@2 Lateralus Schism, and Right in Two are some of the best examples.

Angels on the sideline,
Puzzled and amused...
Why did Father give these humans free will?
Now they're all confused.

Don't these talking monkeys know that
Eden has enough to go around?
Plenty in this holy garden, silly monkeys,
Love that

Maynard is a genious, really all his songs have a certain beat/rhythm/meaning in it.

Take Lateralus for ex:

FIBONACCI PATTERN IN SONG:
Count the syllable groups in the verse. "Black - then - white are - all I see - in my infancy - red and yellow then came to be - reaching out to me - lets me see"
1 - 1 - 2 - 3 - 5 - 8 - 5 - 3
The Fibonacci Sequence is a sequence in which any number, except the first two, is the sum of the previous two numbers. This is that pattern. The pattern continues in other parts of the verse and the song. The drum beats also follow that pattern.

The singing in the song starts at approximately 1.618 minutes into the song. This number is the Golden Ratio, or the divine proportion. It is found in all forms of life and nature throughout the universe. This number is closely related to the Fibonacci Sequence mathematically.

The chorus of the song moves from 9/8 to 8/8 to 7/8, time signature-wise. 987 is the 17th step of the Fibonacci Sequence.

This all may seem kind of random. Let me explain. The idea of the song is spiraling out, riding the spiral, etc. The entire song is based on the idea that our divinity and the way we should live is like a spiral, and we should ride it. In other words, over-thinking and overanalyzing separate the body from the mind. Our body, mind, and soul should be one. When the Fibonacci Sequence is graphed out, it is represented as a slowly expanding spiral.
