Too optimistic for 26-27

I don’t see where this super team is going to come from that would be significantly better than this year’s team. We made the elite eight. The odds we find a point guard better than Jacobi is extremely small. Likewise unlikely to get a 3 man better than Nate despite his challenges and to get a big as good as Felix you probably lose JP.
To be better we have to get a couple of great players not just some mid major shooters .

You need to chill the portal hasn't even opened up dude. We don't even know who all will enter it.

At this time last year we didn't even know we were going to get Nate Ament.

Gillespie would have just entered the portal a few days ago this time last year.

Not to hate on Okpara because he was a fine player but it won't be hard to replace 8 PPG and 6 RPG. He was a great defender, but not irreplaceable.

JP we don't even know if he's gone or not and if he is I'm sure it's the coaches decision and I trust them.

Wait until the summer and revaluate the team before you think the sky is falling.

We shall see. In the past few seasons, we have Seen CRB bring In Knecht, Lanier, Ament, and Gillespie. I like UT's chances of being able to land some instant impact guys. Three elite 8 runs in a row and getting Nate Ament drafted in the 1st round won't hurt either.

I don’t know anyone could read what I wrote and conclude I think “ sky is falling“. I do think most fans underestimate how difficult getting to the elite 8 is regardless how much money you have . Look at UK . Of course I am new to this since I have only been watching UT basketball since sixties.

If Coach Barnes hasn’t gained your trust by now, then he never will.

The Man wants a championship- not final four, a championship. Major donors Haslam sr) are opening their wallets for NIL- to build a better roster than this past season’s.

Agree! Barnes and his staff probably already have a plan and a list of players who they already know are probably portal bound. They haven’t done too bad so far.

Barnes totally flipped almost the whole team last year, and all he did was go back to elite 8. I think he’s got it.

Matching Jacobi will be hard, yes. But remember the thoughts after we knew ZZ was gone. How can we ever replace him?

Matching the ACTUAL production of Ament will not. Do confuse production w potential and projections. The NBAs value is based on the latter. But that is literally of ZERO value to the Tennessee Volunteers.

Okpara improved both years, but replacing rebounding, shot blocking, defense is not impossible.

On the court, this was was one of Rick Barnes worst teams after the first couple of seasons. We literally lost 11 games before the tournament. We got a great draw in the tournament and played three games well. Don't let that smoke screen our absolute lack at the two position and the three position and scoring almost everywhere. Plus, our defense was pretty decent this year, but it was not elite as in years past.

We have a good core of Bigs. We need shooters, a point guard, a scoring two guard/3 combo, a 3, and another big. Spend the money in the portal and we can be greatly improved for next year.

We need more points. More shooters who have been successful against good/great defenses. Need to add at least 40 points to roster. Every player in the portal, and probably several others who are thinking about it, is for sale. Need to open up the checkbook.

Wishful thinking, I know. But, from where I sit, our goals should be to have the highest scoring team, the best rebounding team, and best free-throw shooting team in the SEC.

And Barnes needs to finally fix the problems from the free-throw line. You consistently make 7 of 10 free throws in practice or you will not see the floor and should enter the portal, period.

So if this was 2 years ago, we don't go after just a mid major shooter like Dalton Knecht per your assesment.

Don't know about JP leaving if they can get a Felix clone. Two different skill sets.

This years team was very imbalanced, and there were really only 2 guys––Ament and Gillespie––who could create their own shot. We don't have to find a like-for-like replacement for Gillespie, Ament, etc. if we can upgrade the scoring at other positions (Lundblade for example will likely give us more scoring than Boswell).

Once the portal is completed we will have an opportunity to see if it looks better on paper than this year’s roster . Then we will have an opportunity to see the team play and see if the team is significantly better than the 25-26 team which would mean it would have a better record and get to at least elite eight .
I think my big disagreement with most of you is related to the myopic view that our recruiting and retention is going to operated at such a great level that we are going to make this great leap. There are numerous teams that will be upping their spending also. Great enthusiasm without knowing what other teams are doing is premature . That view doesn’t make me a pessimist but a realist in how quickly things can change in this era ..
