As much as you dislike the idea of providing sanctuary to black and brown people, it's fully legal to show up and ask for asylum. You goobers control the house, senate and presidency. Change the law if you don't like it.
What a joke! Nobody is bemoaning folks following the proper immigration policy. It’s the folks sneaking across the borders and staying illegally that’s the issue. Every reasonable person knows this.

Trump is. he has cancelled the legal status of hundreds of thousands of people. he has openly talked about expanding what can cause someone to lose their citizenship.

Do you know what asylum is? It can be granted and taken away when the situation changes. Asylum isn't supposed to be permanent.

sure. but give people some grace time. seems like there should be some sort of heads up for people to get their affairs in order before they become a criminal. a lot of the people with changed statuses don't even find out their status has been changed until they are arrested.

I will keep saying it, the how of Trump's actions is atrocious, and sets bad precedence. I am willing to bet most of this board is going to be complaining when the next Dem uses Trump as precedence to do something.

They got a 60 day notice. They even got a chance to reapply.

Venezuelans with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) granted under the 2023 designation received notice that their TPS would terminate on April 7, 2025, according to a Federal Register Notice published on February 5, 2025. This notice provided a 60-day window before the termination became effective.

"Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, giving it more funding than any other federal law enforcement agency"

"Under this bill, if — by 2028, you're talking about spending effectively 80 percent of all federal law enforcement dollars will go to immigration enforcement."

that seems like an issue, and just an excuse to increase funding on non-ICE in the future. its not like other crime just stops in the US.

"They can transfer it to other parts of ICE. But ICE plans to hire an additional 10,000 new agents to the tens of thousands they already have."

I am old enough to remember when the government hiring 10,000 new agents to uphold the existing laws was an issue for the right.

"and that they could end up using the money to hire out contractors that could help ICE agents, that could supplement their operations."

oh goodie. I am guessing there is some way to legally do this, but I don't like the sound of Blackwater running the streets looking for people to dump into the back of an unmarked vehicle, and trust that they are grabbing up only the bad guys.

"They expect that a lot of private prison companies are going to be getting the majority of that money in order to build out these facilities"

I loathe the idea of private prisons, period. this just encourages the state to lock people up to meet the full house quotas they have.

"The bottom line, Amna, is that there is no way to reach that 7,000 daily arrests that Tom Homan and the administration is talking about without expanding their targets.

Now, ICE arrest data obtained by the Deportation Data Project and the UCLA Center for Immigration Law shows that a majority of the undocumented immigrants that have been arrested since Trump took office did not have a criminal conviction"

way to focus on the dangerous criminal element there Trump.
Maybe people in a certain previous administration should have realized the magnitude of the problems they were creating. The bigger you let a problem grow, the more pain and effort when it comes time to fix it.

and the more power the government will grant itself, and the more rights amongst americans will be restricted.

this is going to be the new TSA/Patriot Act. going far beyond its scope to directly impact the lives of Americans while returning questionable at best results.

just because there were previous government eff ups doesn't mean we should excuse more government eff ups. all that does is encourage the government to keep effing up. which is how we ended up with Biden's border mess. all you are doing is enabling the government to continue its bad acts. The Dems will have a too far response to ICE when they get back in power, and then the republicans will respond to that, so on and so forth, further into the whole we go.

Trump campaigned on this for over a year on what his policies will be if elected. Grace period was then.

I totally get where you are coming from. But what choice at this point do we have?
My only alternative plan is to give people here illegally like 60 days to register in a special database. The ones who do so voluntarily will be allowed to enter the legal pathways with no penalty. Anyone unregistered caught after that point is immediately deported and never allowed to apply for legal status.
We at least have to get an inventory of who is here, where they are, and have no criminal records.
The ones who who register get two years to become legal and if not, then be deported. Take some of the ICE budget to hire many more people to process the paperwork.
What we really want as Americans, I feel, is that we get control of the process. Biden left it a total clown show.

People didn’t believe he would follow through. He did. Now if he would only follow through on the Epstein Files, Some arrests and perp walks of the members of the previous Administration who lied under oath to Congress, and that Court Martial of Gen Milley

allow the process to take the time it needed with the resources that were present. find ways to streamline the process.

despite what the fear mongers at Fox tell you, immigration was not an imminent threat to this country. we weren't going to collapse in 2 months because there were too many illegals.

cut off the border access like Trump has done. then weed out the people here. they really should have started with some type of amnesty/registration process while they focused on the criminals. by the time you deal with the criminal elements the amnesty/registration clock would have ran out, and you could have started working thru those people. peel back the layers one by one. allowing ICE to focus on specific demographics or categories instead of throwing millions at them at once. with a systematic approach there would be some reason to it, some methodology.

set some time lines or goals that can be communicated and understood.
Start with the gangs/hard core criminals.
then move onto the smaller crimes.
then move onto those only drawing from the system.
then move onto those who aren't under any type of previously legal action.
then focus on whatever problematic asylum or temporary status group of your choice.
then focus on the ones who overstayed a visa.
then finally focus on any who haven't made it 100% thru the process

make it some sort of natural progression, with clear stated tiers, and reasoning behind. saying you are focusing on the MS13 types while also raiding farms, and schools shows you aren't serious about the MS13 problem. its just cover.

as it is its been a giant shock to the system with no one really knowing what is going to happen, or what the results actually are. the gangs haven't been eliminated or even drastically reduced, so it ticks me off that they are going after farmers. those picking crops are so far from the main/biggest issue its laughable ICE is even looking at them. instead of focusing on the bad illegals they would rather go after the "good" illegals. it makes no sense.

its theatre to make it appear like they are doing something, but the main issue remains.
