Too many recruits?

I am conflicted on grey shirting. I do believe Saban deserved the criticism he received back in 2013 mainly because he was asking them to gray shirt to rehab from injury before trying to compete for playing time. It was a way to unload his injured players instead of standing by them. That abuse aside I am not sure I am against the actual practice of gray shirting. To me you are giving the kid a shot. As long as you are honest with the kid and tell them they are basically auditioning for the job and if they fail to deliver they will not get a spot I think it is good.

I have no problem with Tennessee recruiting like Alabama because the Tennessee's recruiting has improved tremendously. I'm happy to let Jeremy Pruitt and his coaching staff do what they think is best.

First of all, there is a difference between "processing out" and "read the writing on the wall"
Processing means UT coaches does not honor their offer. "Read the writing on the wall" the recruit makes the decision to stay or decommit. In none my posts on this subject have I ever used the term "a wink and a nod"

If you've read any of posts I've explained why TN coaches don't practice processing. Sometimes recruits will accept a grey shirt of a semester and go on a full ride which counts against next years totals. I have repeated that Processing shows "lack of integrity" on the coaches part. That's an awful lot to lose because recruiting is all about the relationships between the coaches, recruits, recruit's parents, recruit's HS coach.

I have consistently said "trust the coaches creativity, the numbers always work out."

Since you say "it happens all the time", then name 3 times where UT coaches pulled a "ship" and left a recruit high and dry. You'll be lucky if you can name one

UF processed a 3* TE, with good grades, no trouble etc. The recruit's dad went full nuke on every media outlet he could get on, even ESPN.

If Taylor or Smith want to come here, they'll be here. No one will be processed. The best thing you can do is not worry about it, coaches will handle this and not ruin their reputations.

Where there's a difference of opinion, then there's always room for a wager.
You win, you can make a 100 posts telling everybody how stupid I am with no contest. I win and I only require one thing: for you to shut up about processing.

My comment referring to “it happens all the time” referred to the entire landscape of college football, not just or specifically Pruitt. And I wasn’t even commenting that it was a bad thing. You seem a little sensitive to it and immediately went into defend Pruitt mode. I don’t study UT’s recruiting closely enough to determine whether Pruitt has “processed out” players or not, and I’m not that emotionally invested in it to research. However, UT is currently at 24 commits and probably has commitable offers that they would accept to another 15 players at least (and that number is probably way higher). Well, they’re not going to sign 40+ players. So some form of class management has to take place. Call it whatever you want, “processing out” is just a commonly referred to term for this situation. If you prefer something else, fine, we’ll go with that.
