Tony Robinson story

Don't remember that about TR; could be true. But I think I remember a story about Shuler kneeling on the 50 and banking them off the uprights. I could be wrong about that, too.

I heard Shuler broke a receivers helmet in practice... Again, not sure if true.. Always sounded on the 'not possible' side to me... He had a cannon for an arm though..

Robinson is the best quarterback who ever played at Tennesse. Including everybody.

Not even close...He had maybe 2 or 3 good games as UT qb...The game against Auburn was his claim to fame and it turns out that Auburn team was terrible...I had classes with Robinson when he as at UT....Yes he had a fantastic arm and could throw it for a mile...He used to make me so mad sometimes with his decision making...like throwing the ball all the way across the field to stop the clock against Kentucky and losing the game because of it...Running the ball with time running out against Maryland and not sliding down so we could kick the winning field goal and fumbling :banghead2: He had potential but shamefully threw it all away.

I could be wrong here, but I thought you couldn't spike the ball back then. That play did seem odd, though.

Tony had always been one of my favorite TN quarterbacks.
i went to the KY game in 1984, that was a heartbreaker.

Tony like many other athletes made bad decisions that greatly cost him.

I wish him the best.

I'm talking about at Tennessee while wearing the orange. That's all. Manning might have been a better pure passer while at UT, although Robinson had a stronger arm and could make all the throws you needed him too. But Robinson was by far the more complete, opposition-killing weapon. If I need to win one college football game and I get the choice of 1984-5 Tony Robinson or 1996-7 Peyton Manning, there's no question which one I want.

(And that's without even getting into the indelicate topic of who had a history of gagging in the big games and who didn't.)

Ehh..maybe a bit of a stretch.

Tony played big in a few games, but his defensive teammates helped him out more than Peyton's IMO.

'85 Auburn game T-Rob threw 3 INTs and I'm pretty sure he didn't tackle Bo Jackson once.

Peyton had some bad games against Florida and Nebraska (with an inured knee), but those were the best 2 programs in the country at that time.

I'd go with Peyton. Daryl Dickey showed what another QB could do with the SugarVols team.

Tony Robinson was RGIII with a better arm. He was that far ahead of his time. Randall Cunningham was the only thing close a few years later. Robinson was better than him, before the injury and drug problems. Quite a sight to behold.

My dad basically said this.

It's sad how he ruined his career. Had the talent to be a HOF.
