Didn't two Bama players sandwich him...one high and one low?

When he was first injured...earlier in the game. When his knee went, it was Bennett going for his legs. And Derrick Thomas wasn’t a regular in his freshman season.

OK. I was thinking of the one that took him out for good. It seems like he was hit both high and low and on the old artificial turf there was no "give."

I forgot about the earlier injury.

Slightly off topic but one instance involved T-Rob. Does anyone know when the rule was changed that allowed a QB to spike the ball instead of throwing it OB to stop the clock? The instance I thought of involving T-Rob was the '84 UK game when time expired as he threw the ball OB to try and stop the clock.

Fast-forward to the 1:47:00 mark of this video: 1985 # 20 Tennessee vs # 15 Alabama - YouTube. There was a bit of high-low action on the tackle, which involved Bennett and Curt Jarvis. Bennett came over the top and Jarvis hit him low. Unfortunately, Tony planted his right foot to make a cutback, and the torque applied to the knee at the moment of contact just shredded those ligaments.

If memory serves me correctly, Bobby Bowden never recruited Tony coming out of high school, despite the fact that he was from Tallahassee. One look at that tall, skinny physique convinced Bowden that Robinson was an ACL tear waiting to happen.

I have always believed that we were slowly pulling away from ‘bama in that game. If Tony had not been injured, Alabama would never have regained the momentum, they would not have scored again and Tennessee would have won by something like 20-7 or 23-7.

Tony Robinson's career was basically the Majors' years in nutshell. Moments and games of pure greatness against great teams followed by head scratchingly bad moments and games against bad or mediocre teams. Inconsistent greatness.
