Yeah, man, I was in Bamberg, too. I even think we talked about this before. Your brother and I missed each other by less than a year. He was with one of the artillery battalions, I think you said?
Yes, he ran communications lines for, I believe, the 1st Battalion of the 75th Field Artillery Unit. They had some of the few artillery pieces capable of firing nuclear-tipped ordinance.
My favorite Vols team of all time. Robinson would have likely won the Heisman had he not been injured against Bama.
With all due respect to Manning, Robinson was a better all around QB IMHO. Bigger arm and had as much control of offense. Spread it around as much as Manning too
No he wasn't...Not even close...He cost us a lot of games because of terrible game management Kentucky and Maryland come to mind...Blowing a 21 point lead to Maryland and then trying to run with time running out and fumbling the ball...He screwed up the Kentucky game as well...That game still makes me mad...He was a good QB but on Manning's level no way...He was in the NFL for a short time but just couldn't cut it....Remember he had some awesome receivers on that team as well...McGee and Clinkscales were amazing

Totally agree. Tony was talented but erratic. When he went down in 85' he had 8TD and 7 INT.
Seems like he had maybe 3 picks in the Auburn game?
If memory serves, he followed up the Auburn game with lackluster performances against Wake and UF.
Admittedly against the easier part of the sechedule, Dickey's numbers were actually better than Tony's.
Higher comp%, yards per attempt and a 10-1 TD to INT ratio. Considerably higher QBR.
Tony was very talented but not in the same universe as Manning.

To me even more impact was the Georgia Tech game, Dickey's first start at quarterback. Majors essentially wouldn't let him throw until we were down 6-0 with just a few minutes left and had to throw. Lucky to get a field goal at the end for a 6-6 tie. Carlos Reveiz made two field goals in the fourth quarter of 55 and 51 yards. My recollection is that the 51 yarder was as time expired or with just a few seconds left.
You could have heard a pin drop that day when Alabama illegally tackled TR. I haven't heard that quiet in Neyland since Clint Stoener (sp) fumbled that ball for Arkansas in 98 and GAVE the Vols the National Title. You could have heard two pins drop on the Razorbacks side, or whiskey bottles, (miniature size).
Great qb but when he ran he held the football out like a loaf of bread. Maryland knocked it out to cost us a bowl in 1984.My favorite Vols team of all time. Robinson would have likely won the Heisman had he not been injured against Bama.
