Robinson was 10-5-2 as a starter at UT. He threw 23 TDs and 17 ints. When he was on the field, the band was going to be playing, you just hoped it was our's. Talented but erratic. Had some great moments but also had some head scratching plays where he threw into the defense.
By the end of 85, you could make a case, the team was better off with Dickey at QB. Dickey was consistent, didn't make mistakes, led the team and was a winner. Vols put a lot of points on the board in the last month and then blew out Miami in the Sugar Bowl.[/QUOTE. That’s very true. Dickey took over that team when Tony went down and played well and didn’t make unnecessary mistakes. Plus he was very mature and experienced I think he was a 24 year old senior.

What are these big wins you speak of?...Auburn is the only one I can personally think of...Up until Dooley was our coach Robinson was the last qb we had that lost to Kentucky....He also tied Army and UCLA...Look I don't hate the guy but some people putting him up on a pedestal saying he is one of UT's best ever qb's is hilarious and must have never seen him play much....There have been much much better qb's come to UT in the past 35 years than Robinson. But ,Tony had some really big wins even though he threw a bunch of int"s.
Tied UCLA in the Rose Bowl when they were in the top 10, beat #1 Auburn and beat a ranked Alabama team on the road all within about 6 weeks.

Nope what?? That’s exactly what I just said… We tied a top 10 UCLA team on the road. I remember Chris White getting burned twice late to let them come back.Nope. Tied UCLA 26-26, first game of the year in 1985. Vols up 26-10 in the 4th quarter and Johnny began trying to run the clock out and blew an easy win. Robinson was an exciting player but he was not as good as everyone is remembering him to be.
UCLA was at home...I was there....And it was Peppers who got burned twice. 1985 Tennessee vs # 10 UCLA - YouTubeTied UCLA in the Rose Bowl when they were in the top 10, beat #1 Auburn and beat a ranked Alabama team on the road all within about 6 weeks.
I knew who it was because me and him were friends back in those days...He was crushed and said he should've just gotten a pass interference penalty...He made up for it later in the year tho ;-)You’re right. My brain isn’t working. The 1989 opener was in LA.
As far as who got burned… mostly I just know that I was 12 and I was really mad.
