He was a high school coach that quit that, came back to UT to be a grad assistant under Pearl.

He quit his high school job so that he could come back didn't he?

Did Green really walk-on at UT? From what I remember he played quite a bit during his playing days. I saw him coach quite a bit at Cleveland and I dont think he would be the defensive-minded coach we need.

Pretty sure he was on scholarship, but not sure if he walked on initially.

tony jones announced today he has withdrawn his name from the boston u job. he states his loyalty to the university, and his commitment. you have to assume a large part of the change of heart is because of the new deal bruce got for his assistants to get raises.

1) I think he is a fine assistant for what he does.... but

2) I want him to get a HC job and allow us to pull in some really top notch assistants.

I don't really agree with the first part, but the second part is exactly how I feel.

I still don't understand why people think we can pull in "top notch" assistants. An assistant of that caliber will not choose to go to a school that has trouble winning a high major conference that only got 3 teams into the tourney.
UT doesn't have the clout necessary to reel in a high level of assistants. We got lucky pulling in Bruce, since he was an up-and-comer (on the D1 level). I think we are 10 years of current progress shy of earning top assistants simply based on our "team prestige".

You shouldn't judge the conference off one year. I'm sure even the Big East or ACC have had severe down years too.

That last sentence reminds me of an EA Sports game or something. If Hamilton flashed the dough, I'm sure some top flight assistant would bite, regardless of our basketball tradition.

Top assistants want to come coach at a place where they will get a HC job. If Bruce starts getting his assistants HC jobs then the top assistans will start coming. Whether that be next year or in 10.
