Debord is not going to cut it. We all know it.

Tony Franklin is an offense guru!
For those that don't know about him go read about his background. Look whom he has coached and who he has coached with. The guy has been involved in some of the most explosive offenses in recent years.
He is literally
Sitting here in Tennessee as we speak. It is a no brainer upward move. Recruits love that style of play and he is doing impressive things with mediocre talent at MTSU.
Give him UT talent and he would prosper.
I made the case for him back when we hired Debord and now he is cheaper and already at our doorstep. He is a quick fix. He would be a great mesh with the qb's we have on the bench.
Would really like to see him given an honest look

Isn't he the guy that was at Auburn?

Yes but look deeper- he had one summer with the players and was fired in less than half a season out of desperation. ( auburn fans and boosters really wanted smash mouth running and no gunslinging passers at that time- the game changed but they didn't)

Before auburn he was one of the major names associated with the initial "air raid" offense system (along with others) who coached Kentucky up when they had their most productive years.
He then went to Cal that had no real history of football greatness and made them into a top 15 offense every year he was there ( ahead of us essentially the whole time) with lower talent than we or his surrounding conference teams had. Basically inventing Cal as a football school. He had a side job teaching coaches and qb's how to run his version of the spread.

The guy outside of auburn has had amazing success. At auburn he only had a number of months for his team to learn the system and was fired a few games in. He never got a chance to get the plane of the ground.
Read about him in depth and look at his offensive production. I've been following him since he coached up a heisman candidate at Kentucky.
He's a genious, and sudden unemployment at Cal fortuitously landed him at our doorstep.
Ps- he owned Missouri with 2 star players at best at MTSU

He deserves a solid look

Butch is a fine face guy ( I guess) for the program, but I don't think he is a great x ano guy.
If he can put aside his ego and shut his crop topped cake hole and let Shoop run the d how he likes and bring a guy like Franklin, I honestly believe he can save his own skin. Otherwise....put a fork in him now

I'm not a betting man, but if I was I'd say Azzanni will get promoted to OC if DeBord gets the axe in the off season. I don't think CBJ is willing to hire an OC outside of his circle and let them do their job unimpeded.

Butch may as well resign if that is his decision.

Maybe he could help Medley out too.

Coach Franklin has been all over the place. I met him while I was doing my student teaching in Mayfield, KY in the early 90s. Good guy and would be a significant upgrade to the offense IF Butch would allow him in.

Maybe CBJ could create a position for DeBord within the football department to make an awkward situation a bit less messy.

IF (if, if, if) CBJ were willing to replace DeBord, will it be difficult to get a killer OC if CBJ's job is perceived to be on jeopardy?

Coordinators and assistants tend to get canned when the HC goes.

Butch thinks his Offensive system is the greatest thing since sliced bread so he is not changing it .

Hopefully this is not the case, but it very may well be. Hopefully Butch can swallow his pride, be the faceman, recruit, and turn the O over to an actual OC. 100% lets get Franklin or look at the top offenses right now...(Helton at WKU, Peterson at ECU, Fitch at La Tech). Stoops did it at OU, with Lincoln Riley from ECU and look at the results.

Franklin is an excellent OC, but he'd be a bad fit here. He's an "Air Raid" guy and we don't have the players for an "Air Raid" style offense. Indeed, it would be a bit of a waste given the dual threat weapons we have on our roster right now.

The amount of truth in this almost makes me want to stop watching for the next few years and just get updates after games.
I think Butch has put too much faith in his "process" and when things start going poorly, he cannot see any other way to go other than sticking with the process, with the hopes that eventually things will work themselves out.
Similar to this, he seems to be far too rigid when it comes to "his people" for coaching. So far the biggest departure from the norm for Butch I have seen has been him hiring Shoop. Shoop was an actual big name coordinator who was well thought of as a defensive mind.
This makes me question how this year the defense has looked terrible in spurts. Sure we have had injuries, but even before the injuries we played App State to OT(FYI, they have not been world beaters this year), Va Tech was killing us until they fell apart with turnovers(Kirkland went down in the third, long after Va Tech had hurt us), and Ohio played us far too close as well (granted, with Sutton and and Reeves-Maybin going down in this game). Some blame can be put on the offense, but on defense there were definite signs that something was not right from the beginning. It is easy to make excuses, but it feels like we have been making excuses all year long. Against SC, the excuses ran out. I don't know how Shoop can go from defensive guru at previous stops, to at times clueless here. Is he really this bad, or is it a sign that there are huge problems under the surface?

He turned Dwight Dasher into Vince Young during his first stint at MTSU in 2009.

Agree and look at what he has done at MTSU now, with no talent on the bench. Just beat Mizzou, which I am not entirely comfortable we will at this point.
