Tony Elliott (Clemson OC)

I keep coming back to this and am trying to understand what you mean. Are you saying being black is a handicap? Or being a woman is a handicap? If so, you’re an idiot on both accounts. Just figured I’d say that.

But if I’m reading this wrong, please correct me.
I believe it was obvious the intent was “handicapping” the hire by reducing the pool of applicants by 75% or more before you even start looking at people.

We would be blessed to get Tony Elliot. Just because you haven’t heard of him or approve means nothing. Negative talk!

I disagree. Please tell me why you think he would be successful here? Has he managed a P5 program? Has he ever been a HC? I just posted above about the OC he replaced at Clemson. The other coordinator was hired for almost 2 million a year at USF and went 1-8. It’s not gonna happen.

Really? Elliot is one of the most well respected OCs in the country with ZERO HC experience.

Pruitt was one of the most well respected DCs in the country with ZERO HC experience.

Please explain why we would be blessed to get yet another inexperienced coordinator.

Several major programs have gone after him already and he’s said no. Look at his last 3 QB recruits. 2 NC games called over Bama!
I’ve been around him while my boys were at Dabo camps and he’s extremely impressive and a much different person than Pruitt.

So provide your insightful candor on why he wouldn’t be other than you don’t want him!

Neal McCready, Ole Miss beat writer who is as dialed in as anyone in the SEC, said a name to really watch in this deal is Tony Elliot.

He said he made his mandatory calls about Kiffin and thought Kiffin was a complete non-starter. Thinks it’s just Lane being Lane.
macgoogle.

100% Agree

I will say this, if you look at who Danny White has hired at his other schools Buffalo (football: Lance Leipold; basketball: Bobby Hurley & Nate Oates) & UCF (football: Scott Frost & Josh Heupel; basketball: Johnny Dawkins, Abrahamson-Henderson) with the exception of Leipold who was HC at Wisconsin-Whitewater & Abrahamson-Henderson-Henderson who was HC at Albany, the other 2 football coaches were OC’s prior to being hired; the basketball coaches were assistant/associate head coaches.

Elliot would not surprise me & I think would be a great hire. Unlike, Fulmer I believe Danny White knows how to do his homework and hire the right guy who can effectively do & handle the job.

Also, like Plowman said he’s made hires that weren’t “the obvious” hires, but they were strategic & thoughtful.

I trust him to get it right whoever he hires; I think all too often on here several of us latch on to a certain coach & when that is not who is hired we turn on them at the first stumble. How about we try trusting this guy actually knows what he’s doing (first AD I can comfortably say that about since Doug Dickey) & let him hire the right guy whoever that is & trust that since he has a track record of making the right hires that will still be the case here.
Gonna be Leipold. Nice and symmetrical. I have no basis for this other than speculation. And no, it wouldnt be my favorite hire.

We don't need another Pruitt, We need a established head football coach...Many times these big time assistants do not work out, aka Pruitt, Muschamp etc etc etc...Your rolling the dice on if they can manage a bigtime football program by themselves...We don't need that.

To use that mentality, both Dooley and Jones had previous HC jobs. Neither of those two jokers worked out. To be a great coach does not require previous HC duties.

Pruitt won several championships and was a defensive guru....but he could not handle the HBC duties for $hit!!! I think Elliot will be great Hc at a smaller school that is not in a massive rebuild.

Tony Elliot could be brought on as OC. He could be the choice of the new coach. Maybe they are going to pay the new coach AND his OC top dollar.
Just like Steele was brought on, NOT as the coach, Elliot could be coming, NOT as the HC.

This Administration will get it right. We will be shocked and pleased!

He is not leaving Clemson to be an OC somewhere else. He turned down numerous NFL teams, he's not coming here except as a HC.

I certainly understood what you meant.

However there are already several good minority choices out there......who just need the chance.

There are at least a couple who would be amazing hires “if” it could be done.

If Tennessee could land Bieniemy.....that would be a major win for Tennessee.......it’s not really a “handicap” by giving a few a look or an opportunity......we only looking for 1 coach.

I’m all for finding the “best” choice......not sure how Bieniemy wouldn’t at least be “one” of the best choices. He deserves a real look.

While I much prefer we hire an experienced HC. Pruitt was not very respected at all. Plus offensive guys work out at a much higher rate than defensive guys.
