According to local inside sources, Jimmy Hyams, Brohm accepted the job, but turned down after second thought. It was widely reported at the time. Broom than went on a PR campaign about how much he loves and believes in Purdue.
He reneged because we made him look like an ass for allowing the story to break before he’d spoken with his players. We basically self-sabatoged. Not sure how much hiring power Currie even had at that point, anyway.

The point is, if we’d made a sincere, coordinated effort to hire any of these guys, most of them would have accepted. Tennessee isn’t an interior job, we’ve just been doing an unbelievably bad job wooing these guys.

As much as I love UT, if I was an up and coming coach showing a lot of promise, it wouldn’t be automatic. Tennessee has ruined some coaches careers with it’s up hill battle and of course some didn’t make it easy on themselves.
Bad ADs, administration and recruiting issues had made it difficult. Give Heupel a lot of credit for taking this chance.
