I'm listening to Basilio right now, and I agree with what he says about Guarantano. The fact is he is probably going to be the starter Saturday and we need to support him. Booing him and tweeting negative things at him is not going to help him play better. It is what it is. I get just as frustrated with his play as anybody, but there is a point where the negativity becomes toxic and hurts the team. Let's get behind him and hope he plays the best game of his life because we are stuck with him for now.

If we all say we support Guarantano, will that impact his ability to execute the play called by the coaches instead of choosing to use his 6-inch vertical leap to jump his offensive line?

Cause if so, I'm all in.

All I'm saying is the mental aspect of the game is more important than most people realize. Guarantano definitely has some mental blocks on the field. Will cheering for him help him play better? Maybe, maybe not. But booing him and tweeting negative things definitely wont help his play. The old adage, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" is appropriate here.

Um, we beat Mississippi State with him playing. He made a few really nice throws to keep the offense moving and seal the win. He is inconsistent and looks really bad at times, but you have to give credit where credit is due.

It’s sad If he starts. Coach should start Jennings if anything. JG has way lost support from the masses. Silly-o is right but you can’t stop this train.

I feel the same way. When we lost GSU and BYU, it put us in an almost impossible situation to reach a bowl game. Maurer gave us some hope, but he's simply not sturdy enough to take the hits the SEC gives at this point in his career. We are what we are this season. Not much anyone can do about it now. Just get through the year with no major injuries and get a lot of playing time for the younger players.

Recruit, recruit, recruit....and for the love of the program, get a juco or grad transfer QB. Bailey is unproven and a true freshman. Hill transferred from Maryland for a reason. Maurer is injury prone. We need another guy for next season.

I agree it’ll be much tougher to win games but we could still win some with him at QB. We need BM in the worst way, but I could see a game plan similar to when JG played against Miss St.

Vols D gonna have to continue to improve and step up even more than before down the stretch if JG is under center.

His ability to play QB is hurting his play. No mental block. He just isn't that good of a QB.

Sorry but JG experienced support in spite of his play for a couple of years. His apologists were many. Those who dared question him were attacked.

His ineffectiveness as QB is plenty "toxic" enough when it comes to creating negativity and hurting the team.

Pruitt is operating on good will right now after a good showing vs Bama. If he starts JG without even giving Shrout a shot... he'll risk losing that. Like it or not, most of the fanbase is awake now and does not believe JG can play winning football against a good opponent.

Hope so.

There's also some strategy to play. IMO, JG transfers after the season or quits football altogether. If JT gets his shot and performs decent then he may choose to stay. If he's not even given a shot... why stay?

There's no reason to have confidence in JG and no reason to fake it. There is every reason to maintain depth at QB to demonstrate confidence in Shrout.

I have been going to college sporting events all of my life and have never booed my own team, no matter how frustrating the level of play. I just don’t get it.

I understand venting a little on a discussion board or maybe booing a pro team where the players are a little more mercenary.

But, booing a specific college player is lame and pointless. It’s not his fault the team lacks a better option.

Look, Basillio may be right or may be not. The fact is, JG should not start at QB for us on Saturday. That is not a judgment on him as a person. It is a judgment as a QB. I should not play QB for us either. Does that make me a bad, worthless, trashable person? No. IMO I'm a great person. But I am not high-level college QB material. Neither is JG. Should people ease up on him? Yes. There is no room to be mean-spirited or malicious. But there is also no reason to pretend he is a good college QB. Shrout should start, if Maurer can't (and he probably can't). Period.

I believe that you are right. IMO, the fans seem willing to accept JT no matter what mistakes he makes - I just don't know if the coaches are. I know that if I were the HC, I would be getting Shrout as many reps as humanly possible this week.
