that he was unsuprised by Tennessee's loss to Cal, he said that we had no defense, no wr's, and no offensive line. For the first time in my life I agree with something he said. I cant wait until he predicts every other team on our schedule to beat us as well.

I'm just impressed that you could understand that much of his speech.

I'll agree with the defensive assessment, waffle on the wideouts until we see if the newbies can learn the offense and see some action, and disagree completely on the OL.

An analogy including a blind hog and an acorn comes to mind.

Also, did he say it before or after he predicted 10 wins for Notre Dame this season?

yeah he also said Lsu had a top d and then when on to say dont look for VT to come out and look like they did on offense against ecu because ecu played some hard d.

for the record, he did do his absolute best to soft peddle Notre Dame's loss. I also want to note that Tennessee's debacle was thankfully overshadowed by Michigan and Notre Dame. Esp UM, if it wasnt for Appy State the media would be having a field day with us.

:eek:lol: . . . and that Michigan would be one of 4 undefeated teams at the end of the season?

i thought we caught and got yards after the catch very well for a team that lost so much tallent at that reciever

I disagree with that... the higher ranked team won. What would be the basis for having a field day with that?

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I was talking our team up before but had my doubts. It also wasn't as ugly as most would think. I jumped in mid-first quarter and saw what was a terrible 3 quarters but I think that if EA hadn't fumbled, we may be talking about being 1-0 and spanking Southern Miss. But I can't really make anymore predictions about what didn't happen.

i'll agree whole heartedly that the defense struggled, but his claims about the WR and o-line are totally off base. the WR basically caught everything that was thrown well enough to be caught, and o-line looked good both run blocking ( we averaged almost 5 yds per carry) and pass protecting (ainge was sacked only once and hit once, although that one hit did have pretty disastrous results). but overall the WR and o-line were relatively impressive

I've been thinking the same thing since Saturday night! Michigan saved us from really getting nailed in the media.

It really doesn't matter how the rankings went. The media's Pac-10 darling got their revenge or redemption or whatever they were looking for and ESPN would have had that up as their college football headline until tonight's game.

our WR also showed that they could not run a deep route successfully.

I don't understand this... why would UT be singled out/get slammed by the media? Cal was ranked higher, was favored to win, and was picked to win by the majority of the media. Seems like the media would be validated in a situation like that rather than pushed to the point of slamming the team that lost.

...and Cal was at home and playing on the whole revenge angle. I agree. I doubt the reaction would be different at all.

point taken, we never threw the ball down the field, but it seemed to me that could have been more a problem with ainge's broken finger than their inablility to go deep. we never even took a shot down the field all night, it wasn't like ainge was getting the ball deep down the field and they weren't able to go get it, we never even tried to stretch the field

Sometimes I wonder who the bigger idiot is: Corso or Holtz. Corso is the Madden of College Football, and Lou is a crazy old man.

I don't see why you guys are getting blasted either. Cal is a good team. No reason to jump ship on Tennessee just yet.

Did he go on to say Notre shame will go undefeated the rest of the way.

Absolutely correct. What some people seem completely unable (or unwilling) to understand is that the vast majority of the outside world expected the result that did in fact occur. Outside of the Volnation (the big one, at large) and the SEC believers, most everyone else thought that Cal would win that game.

They were at home. Higher ranked. Big expecations for them. They were favored. Honestly, I do not think that the result of that game would get more or less coverage than it did because, well, it was what people thought would happen.

OK I know this is a little off topic but on Vol Calls tonight CPF actually used some language when speaking of the ESPN crew. He said that sometimes they dont know what the he!! they are talking about. I think the big boy is feeling a little pressure because I was expecting heck, and about fell out of my chair.
