Bolt has slowed down, only won with a 9.80. His Olympic record was 9.63. Only man to win Olympic gold medal three straight times. Happy to have seen him run the last 12 years.

Testing is more advanced than ever and I'm sure they're keeping up with him. Also, this shows you know jack about what actually went down with Gatlin because his first "cheat" was because he had Adderall in his system. So genius, explain to us how that made him faster? I have ADHD, took Adderall in HS and into college where I also ran D1, I guess I was cheating too and should have all my trophies and medals taken away?

Still controversy over his second test and past transgressions are irrelevant if one is doing it the right way now but you continue on on your high horse there stud

lol you and GRN1926 internet tough guys; calling out someone else for posting his opinion and comparing him to a 100m athlete. i'm sure volfanhill does 1000 things better than gatlin.

If you had worked and were talented enough to be one of those 7 guys that lined up to run against Bolt in his last Olympics, then you have my total respect. Gatlin having won the silver medal and at this point in his career is probably tested every which way possible known to man to ensure he was clean from PEDs. Just respect the men for what went down on that historic for Bolt run. Maximum respect men.

for a 34 yr old to get a silver is quite the accomplishment, especially what Gatlin went through.

Personally I think Bolt's starts are measured not slower than Gatlins. The commentators were talking about how many strides it took Bolt finish the 100. It was ridiculously lower than others. I think he can turn on the burst whenever he wants to. He was simply measuring Gatllin and what he needed to beat him. JMO He makes it look easy.

I'm sure he is. But Gatlin wasn't calling him out for his accomplishments. Unfortunately he was just too busy winning silver in the 2016 olympics to defend himself on volnation.

And I'm pretty sure the Internet tough guy would be the person repeatedly badmouthing a world class sprinter on an anonymous message board. Not the guy pointing out that his performance should be applauded.

Actually Bolt's ability at shorter distances is underrated, primarily because his reaction times aren't consistently good. In Rio he had the 2nd slowest RT in the field. Anyway just to throw some numbers out here are the 30m/40m splits for Bolt's 9.58 and Gatlin's 9.77.

Bolt 3.78/4.64
Gatlin 3.89/4.74

As far as I'm aware only Maurice Greene has a faster 30m split (couple 100ths IIRC) and nobody has a faster 40m than what Bolt has on his resume.

If it wasn't for ONE man on the planet...

Justin Gatlin would be the greatest sprinter of all time.

He would have at least 3 Olympic golds and a silver.

Can you imagine how that must screw with Justin???

never thought of it like that. Bolt is definitely living rent free in poor Justin's head and I doubt he's moving out anytime soon lol

Eh, it's much harder to be considered the GOAT without the record and unless my memory is failing badly even without Bolt Gatlin's best 100m would still be slower than the best by Gay, Blake and Powell.

Same could be said for every silver medal career. There's no guarantee he would have won those races even without Bolt

Maybe but he is still the fastest American...not too bad of an accomplishment for a 34 year old.
