I watched Trevor punt in high school. I knew he would start if he walked on. I really think the only reason he wasn't recruited was that he was not a punter/ kicker. Most punters practice kickoff responsibilities. Sad to see the Townsend kid leave. Nobody wants to pay their dues and earn their playing time anymore.
Not usually. But it happens. And with his red-shirt year, he's the same age as a lot of seniors. If he has another year as good as last, then I wouldn't be surprised.
Even if he has a BETTER year, NFL punting prospects are a crapshoot. Most want a body of work to showcase to talent scouts. He could have an epic season and go undrafted. Or go middle round and get beaten out by a journeyman. I wouldn't be surprised but I'd respect his intelligence a lot less.
Lol. I concede. It would make sense to me to declare, but admittedly, I don't know as much about the draft side of the game. It just seems like he has all the measurables; combine that with a two solid year body of work. Seems like a good resume.
It's a numbers problem. Only 32 NFL teams, all have a punter, most use their kicker as the back up punter since injury to the punter is so rare. Most teams will take 3-4 punters/kickers into summer workouts, by season start you don't want to waste a roster spot on extra punters so you sign your back up to the practice squad. Oh and punters normally have a long career, both Colquits are still NFL punting
