While I think Auburn was guilty of some of these claims, I think unsavory reporters just trying to dig up a dirt story and misquoting folks should be a crime. I'm not talking just this incident I just feel a big problem in our society is a segment of media jouranlist that don't care about truths. They would rather just sensationalize a story regardless of the truth something for their own gain. These days some just want to find dirt for a story whether it's true or not, it's time for these types too face the music if they just right anything to make a buck. Again I am not defending auburn as I think they have some explaining to do but a segment of our media is TRASH. GO VOLS!

Couldn't agree more. It seems to me that most national media comes to a story with a pretty strong bias that feeds a narrative they're looking for. If they even remotely smell blood in the water they attack. The Duke lacrosse case was this on steroids!

They all wanted to believe they had an open and shut case of the rich and powerful beating down the poor and down-trodden. They wanted to believe it so bad that they ran with it and never even tried to check out the story, verify facts, etc. .... they believed the story validated what they already "knew" to be true. Just pathetic! And the university faculty was every bit as bad if not worse.

I know that when I see a national story/scandal reported on now, the first thing I ask myself is, "I wonder what the truth really is?..."

the reporter who wrote this lost her previous job for her reporting during the Duke lacrosse scandal and several people mentioned in this aricle have come out and said they were miss quoted or their quotes were takin out of.context...not saying i think auburn is clean in this but the source is questionable

Wow!...I'm waiting for the 30 on 30 on that Duke lacrosse mess...lots of sports writers and experts jumped on those kids early...based on really fishy information

I'm fairly certain that AU begged, borrowed, stole, lied, cheated, murdered, pillaged, and worshiped satan to win that Championship. I just hope Thig isn't tied up in it.

"During my tenure at Auburn, the NCAA conducted a multi-year investigation into the Auburn football program that they called “fair and thorough.” The NCAA focused intently on widespread accusations about Auburn players being paid and other alleged recruiting violations. The NCAA conducted 80 interviews. In October 2011, the NCAA rejected “rampant public speculation online and in the media.” Unfortunately, the recent story published by Selena Roberts is more of the same. It once again portrays Auburn University, current and former coaches, professors, fans, supporters and community officials in a false light.

Unfortunately, Ms. Roberts’ story is long on accusation and inference, but short on facts and logic. It is noteworthy that the story comes just days before a player mentioned most prominently in the article is set to go to trial for felony armed robbery. The statements are very generalized accusations devoid of substance. During my time as Auburn’s head coach, I never authorized, instructed or directed anyone to change any player’s grade or provide any type of illegal payment to any student-athlete. Likewise, I am not aware of any alleged grade change or illegal payment by any member of my coaching staff, support staff or anyone else.

As for logic, the notion that the conduct inferred by Ms. Roberts was occurring under the NCAA’s nose, at the very same time the NCAA is conducting its thorough investigation, lacks merit. Further, the notion that there was ever an attempt to sabotage any Auburn student-athlete’s attempt to play professional football is outrageous. Auburn’s success in transitioning student-athletes to the NFL benefits both the student-athlete and the Auburn program.

I remain part of the Auburn family and take these attacks on myself, the University and community seriously. During my time at Auburn, the administrators, professors and academic staff were of the highest integrity. Additionally, the inference that there was academic support staff that worked together with professors to change grades is absurd. As an Auburn resident, I take great pride in the quality and integrity of our police department. They enforce the law equally and fairly and my dealings with police Chief Tommy Dawson and his staff have been nothing short of excellent. He has handled many high profile cases with the upmost integrity and professionalism. To imply anything otherwise is simply wrong.

If there is a sad truth here, it is that there are no repercussions for bloggers who blast out widespread, venomous allegations and inferences in such an irresponsible manner. To make bold and outrageous conclusions on such thin support is a travesty.

During my tenure as Auburn’s head coach, we kept the well-being of our student- athletes at the forefront of every decision. We ran our program with the highest level of integrity and accountability. Period. I make absolutely no apologies for that. I stand firm in my statements, my support of Auburn University, its student- athletes (present and former), faculty, staff and community officials. As I stated during the NCAA investigation, I am comforted knowing that the truth always prevails."

Gene Chizik's statement regarding this report should suffice.

Very few reporters and/or news outlets (CNN ABC NBC CBC MSNBC) could care less whether they get the story correct or not. Sloppy reporting is all they do & sensationalism is all they care about. Don't know what happened in all this Auburn bru-ha-ha, but neither do they, but most of them will report what they think will get THEM the most attention!

She is an Auburn Alum and she also has a long history of clashing with the administration and the local government during her time at the Plainsman. This is a reporter with an axe to grind who published an article that cites an individual recently dismissed from Auburn's football team for an armed robbery as its primary source. The NCAA has also just completed its investigation into Auburn that included over 80 interviews and found no wrongdoing. The bias in this reporting is obvious.

Her slant on the story seems very odd. A player gets into a car with other players, knowing that they intend to commit an armed robbery(hit a lick) and they all get caught. The potential punishment might be severe, but wasn't Auburn's reaction standard procedure? Auburn wanted to cover it up but could not. Because of the facts, it had to isolate the incident and sever the guilty from its program. That is a hard reality for the accused students, but I don't get the outrage.

Could be wrong but sounds more like Trooper Taylor that you are thinking of. Not sure anything has or ever will stick to him though despite the rumors.

That's it! CTT can get confusing. Thanks for the clarification, it just seemed odd that a guy went from a cheater to the best thing since sliced bread.

Thig is doing a great job though, haven't ever been so pumped about recruiting this early in the year! GBO!!!

Isn't that usually how it works? Someone disgruntled or kicked off the team. A fired employee? Happily employed and well compensated people usually aren't the ones spilling the beans. I could be wrong though. Oh wait didn't the Rutgers scandal come to light because of an ex employee who notified the media about a tape that existed. He too was fired yet he's a hero and well compensated after the fact. Interesting how we pick and choose.

Agree with you she's a piece of crap, biased, dishonest reporter... in other words typical. However, too much damn smoke. Not sure how in the world AU didn't get busted for the Cam Newton payoff scandal. Like hell he didn't know about his Dad. And even uf he didnt, shouldve still been ineligible. That was all way too fishy... and so is this.

Get this guy a raise asap.

Lets win some games and get kids to sign LOIs before we hand out raises. Remember everyone was slobbering over Tee as a recruiter for the Condoms for bagging verbals from Hatcher and Ramsey and we all saw how that played out.
