Tommy Thigpen Rumor

Looks like he is a career position coach.. Take the money and continue to build your nest egg

When the new raises take affect Thig will be at about $410K not including Bowl bonus. Both coordinators will be around 500K. We could give Thig a fancy title and bump him to close to 500K but don't think we will. I believe Thig wants to make the move back to Chapel Hill but this may not be the right situation for him.

Point is, if your numbers are correct, our coordinators will make the same amount as UNC is reported to offer Thig. There's just no way a LB coach is gonna make as much or more here as a coordinator. What other title is there besides recruiting coordinator(Azzanni) that we could give him? Assistant head coach? Honest question?

Top programs are paying big money to coordinators and recruiters. Tennessee gonna have to step up if they want to compete.

UT always goes cheap. I said Phil getting fired would be the best thing that ever happened to Chavis. There have been times our asst pay has been laughable. Not that he was worth any more, but I remember OCs first breaking the 7 figure mark and we were paying Sanders 175k

Thigpen is at $382,200 (or real close) after his raise last spring. Due to get another raise within a few weeks. Still 500K is a big difference.

Hold up..

Is the offer a 3 year deal for $500,000? Or is it $500,000 for 3 years (1.5 mil)? There's a big difference there...

I always watch what football scoop has to say and they don't mention anything. Football Scoop is the 247 of coaching searches.

According to OP, 500k per year. Don't think they would offer him $250k per year less than he's making now.

Would love to keep him. I don't care about the cost. He's done well with the linebackers and is probably our best recruiter.

I'd bet you'd care if it came out of your pocket. No way UT tries to match that for a position coach, especially in the less-than-mediocre financial shape the UTAD is in.

I've not seen anything official, only speculation. Thig's name has certainly been tossed around as a possible candidate, though. There was a lengthy thread about it here on Thursday.

And just for clarification, the info you're referring to (correct me if I'm wrong) is from a poster, not an actual media report.

UNC is close to being slammed by NCAA for academic fraud. Have you seen their basketball team "nose-dive?" No big recruits are headed there and that goes for football as well. Thig should stay at UT for now.

Why the hell would anybody want to go to UNC with all the crap they have going on?

He shouldn't go. He would be put into a higher tax bracket and the raise just would go to Uncle Sam..and he would have state taxes. Heck he might lose money...

Not saying I'd love to keep him but if Butch brings home the Ws next year, I'm not too worried.
