Tom Smith

Tom Smith was my favorite recruit from this past class. In his recruiting videos he looks like he'll be a bruiser with some decent speed. I expect him to do well at some point for the Vols.

Tom Smith's HS clips remind me of Ronnie Brown.

I could see this also but he seems to stay lower to the ground

Yeah. His HS film reminded me of a Cobb-clone, but in these practice films, he looks a little different. A little lower, a little more shifty.

He was also my favorite coming in. His videos were sick. he reminds me of Clinton ports with his size and deceptive speed

Why was Tom Smith not on the running back stats for todays scrimmage?

Sometimes stats from scrimmages have been incomplete or inaccurate in the past, especially when the press's presence was restricted.

I don't think I've heard a word about him in camp. Anyone?

He was mentioned as a possible punt returner early on, but I think anybody who didn't have a number in the 60s or 70s may have been mentioned.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Tom redshirt. Knowing Tom and being a Big Orange fan, I would love to see him rush for 1,500 yards and 25 touchdowns this season. But, I would also love to be rich and not fat. :)

Yes, Tom is in camp. Andrew Gribble with KNS tweeted earlier this evening that it was a surprise that Tom got no carries in the scrimmage.

IMO this is a good sign. Tom is obviously very talented, but hasn't gotten a lot of looks bc this is one of the few areas where we have some depth and talent.

Not to mention Lane is looking like he could be an exceptional talent which doesn't help Tom get much exposure.

Trying to figure how you see this as a good sign. In Tuesdays scrimmage most everyone listed as a rb got carries except Smith. Even if CDD had already decided to redshirt him which I'm sure isn't the case wouldn't he still want to see what he can do? He didn't not get carries in the scrimmage due to all our depth and talent it had to be something else. Not saying it had to be something bad at all but something.

Tom not playing says a couple of things to me. Either he is banged up and Dooley wants to rest him or Dooley didn't see any benefit in giving Tom reps. I hope it's not the second option. I want Tom to red shirt, but I also have to believe he should get reps before Summerhil and Toney. Your 4th and 5th string backs shouldn't get more reps than your stud freshman.
