I disagree. When every single member of the national media has the same opinion of your program 1) It says something that biased teneesee fans cant see 2) it sets the tone for how the nation sees your football program which 3) affects how recruits think about your program
We can certainly disagree. I wasn't really addressing whether he agrees with "every single member of the national media" but the overall impact his (or theirs) opinion has on me. I know how I feel about our program and I don't need someone telling me what to think whether I agree with their assessment or not . I understand your point. I just don't agree that the opinion of "every single member of the national media" (which I have zero respect for anymore) should effect my opinion one way or the other. AND several years ago I was a member the media (now I watch most sporting events with the audio down as I find it most annoying having someone explain to me what I'm seeing). Hopefully I explained my point...NOT THAT I DISAGREED OR AGREED WITH THE MEDIA.

We are closer RIGHT NOW to Ole Miss and Kentucky with the current state of our program but.... why would any historic program aspire to be like those historically garbage programs?

Sure it’s bleak right now, but UT can be elite again, we have the tradition, the fan base, the brand... what we have lacked is competence and commitment from the administration, maybe things will slowly start to change. We shall see.

But this holier than thou condescension from the media is getting real f’n old... Our fans passion is not the problem... it’s the reason we can become elite once again (something Ole Miss or Kentucky could never in my lifetime say)

Alabama is the Hollywood elite of college football. It’s what the media wants and as long as Saban is coach that’s the way it’ll be until he retires.
I agree. For most causal observers they never pick up on these things. Having worked in the media in the past (and been married for 40+ years to a journalist) these people are just like you and me. They ALL come from an opinion based position. EVER SINGLE ONE. If we understand this going in then its makes understanding the pieces they write a lot simpler. And to have a dominant "Hollywood elite of college football" it makes their job 10 fold easier. And they are happy to continue and ride that proverbial horse until it drops. I, like you, was not arguing for or against his position but that his opinion didn't move my needle one way or the other.

Someone watches that show?
I flipped it on this morning just to see if we were being discussed. After 5 minutes of commercials, they talked for perhaps 2 and went back to commercials... I changed the channel.

Come on man. It’s you with the holier than thou attitude. We’re a program that just blatantly cheated to 3 ****ing wins and we’ve been humiliated in 4 straight coaching searches.

At best we’re the 6th best positioned program. But that’s largely based on last century history. How’s that working for Minnesota? No one gives a **** about historical winning percentages. If there’s turbulence from this cheating, with another decade of being Ole Miss, we’re arguably done as a top program. You think kids in 2028 are going to care about success we cheated to get in the 90’s?

That's just flat out false. Right now, we're not wanting to be Alabama. We just want to be competitive and field a watchable team.

Uh, did you see our team this past season? And our former head coach? Did you see UK and OM win their bowl games this year?

Edit: Tom Luginbill is still a ******** no matter what level UT is aspiring for.
He thinks he is a Marvin West, but in reality, he is just a John Adams

SEC Network. They were talking about our situation. Luginbill said the problem with the Vols is the fans want to be Alabama, when in reality they should aspire to be Kentucky or Ole Miss. 🤬 What the.... ??? Kentucky or Ole Miss?

If we wanted to be Alabama, Florida or Georgia the fans would've rioted over each of our last 4 hires. Instead we bend over, take it up the tailpipe and restart the process of trying to justify our crap hire.

TN Football slogan, "Thank you sir, may I have another!!"

I call BS we do not want to be Alabama, we just want to be the TRUE Tennessee not this slanderous crap being slung the last 2 decades. Just goes to show you how little we are actually understood by national media and past administrations. Quite fond of current administration. National media better buckle the hell up when we eventually get good again. VolTwitter better be there to help shut them up and call them out when they try to jump back on the bandwagon.

We may hope to be Ole Miss before long. By putting the Confederate flag, Colonel Reb and the old south behind them and a great coach in place they may soon be equals with the best in the SEC.

Lmao.

“why would any historic program aspire to be like those historically garbage programs?”

Don’t be so needle. And ask Minnesota how history is as a moat. We’re midpack in the innate pecking order. We all strive to be better than that of course. I think we can with the right staff.

Yeah and we used to be like "Alabama", and we can get back there.
Tennessee has never been like Alabama is now. Not ever. They have had some really, really good teams, but the Bama program just defies logic now. That is ok, because no one else is like Bama now. Clemson is the only program that can be considered their peer.

Luginbill and the other talking heads should give their attention to how Saban has 5 Parade All Americans coming in rather kick a program that is down. I realize Tuscaloosa is everyone's choice of location to live and that Saban has such a cheery personality. Why does this not ever give cause for some media type to question Bama's recruiting
and payment benefits??

They also won the SEC in 1999. Bama has had some average years post Bryant, but they have never sinked as low as UT has been in this new millenium.
It is not likely that they will ever be as bad as Tennessee is now. It takes perfect storms of gigantic magnitude to sink a program this low.

I think he goes to far.

I think Tennessee can be what they were before the 90's. A winning program that every now and then has a great team that wins a championship.

Do I believe they will be the year in, year out, dominant program within the SEC over a decade or more? No, I don't think that will happen in my lifetime.

And Alabama post Stallings, pre-Saban, did not sink near as low as the Tennessee program has. Not even close.
