Todd McShay's Top 25 Freshman

Won't it be Johnson and Maggitt outside and Santos inside? If not, what should it be?

Don't forget, Lathers should be back in the mix next year.

While Santos is very talented, he's still a freshman and I'd rather start Johnson inside where he'll really thrive since it'll require him to be by himself in space less and allow his strong run stuffing instincts to take over in the inside. Fairly sure we've got some other capable OLBs in the mix now that we have a bit of depth.

This. You start Maggit and Lathers on the outside and AJ in the middle with Santos backing him up.

Be nice to have a little of that wonderful thing called depth next year. If this type of recruiting keeps up they will actually be able to do that thing I've heard about before called red shirting...but I've only seen that around UT in NCAA for xbox hah

Get McCullers and make him a nose gaurd and go to a 3-4 with Santos and Johnson inside and Maggitt and Lathers on the outside. Not gonna happen, but it would make for a mean defense

His stats are stronger than anybody in the top five. If Tennessee wins 8 he is easily in the mix for the top spot. To me Randolph's performance later in the season was just as impressive.

IMHO, Randolph is a better football player than Janzen Jackson was at this point. He isn't quite as fast but is very physical and smart.

The fact that Rivals left him a 3* is an absolute joke... especially considering that AJC heaped all kinds of praise on him.

Now that's just plain ridiculous. What on earth are you basing this on? JJ laid out people on a regular basis as a freshman.....Randolph got his face stepped on more times than not trying to make tackles - not on JJ's level by far

Santos won't red shirt he is just too good I think. But you still have Henderson or King probable will. Our lb rotation will be SICK over the next few years.

No. Not ridiculous at all.

Who played next to JJ as a Freshman? That's right... a guy who could personally cover a MULTITUDE OF boneheaded plays.

And no, Randolph was NOT stepped on even as much as Jackson.

But since you asked... Jackson had 37 tackles while a full time starter. Randolph earned the full time starting role later in the season and had 55 tackles. More tackles in FAR less minutes. Randolph had 2 pass break ups credited to him.... Jackson had 3. JJ had one INT, BR had none.

Overall, Randolph played with less talent around him (JJ also had Rogan and other experienced DB's around him). He had more tackles in far less minutes.... and by Wilcox's own assessment... he didn't make the same mistake twice.

Now you can still disagree with me... but the facts dictate that my "honest opinion" is not ridiculous at all.

If A.J. isn't moved inside, Christian Harris starts at MLB next year. Santos will be the 2nd string MLB either way, IMO. Don't think there's any way that Herman doesn't start.
