A major auction house tried to sell this jersey to me. It was identified as a 1994 Helton game used shirt. Well...there are problems: First of all this style shirt was worn in 1995...NOT 94. Secondly, the patch is the wrong color for white jerseys. Third, and most importantly, Helton was not on the UT team in 1995. Fred Smith was #2 in 1995...(Thank you Bill for that info!). Lastly I attached a photo of Todd in 1994 wearing the correct jersey and correct patch. These guys tried to sell a bad jersey to the wrong Vol fan!

??? Did I miss something?

They say he was on the 2003 steroids list along with Bonds, Sosa and McGwire. Its not hard to put two and two together though. Heltons six year homerun average before 2005 was 36 a year and after 2004 it dropped to 13 homeruns a year.

Not saying he did or didn't use steroids but his chronic back problems have helped lower his numbers as well.

No, sir, we DID also wear that style in 1994. Began wearing it halfway thru the season. It IS legit. Looking for a photo.

Wore the white with orange only jerseys for the UCLA, Georgia and Mississippi State games. Wore the one with the black outline against South Carolina and Vanderbilt.

The patch (which as you can see clearly says 1994) was applied to those jerseys as a patch because the mesh was different than the first set, where it was screened on without a separate patch.

Here is James Stewart, who graduated after the 1994 season, wearing the same jersey with the black outline, both photos from the 1994 game at South Carolina:

That "leaked" version that's on the Internet has been confirmed as a fake for years now. No one actually knows who was on it. Someone (actually, there are at least two 'versions' out there) just made up a list of all the obvious 'roidoids like Bonds, Sosa and McGwire, and added in a bunch of names that were believable.

Helton's drop in power numbers was because of a back injury, which kept him from driving the ball for power the way he did when he was younger. The exact same thing happened to Don Mattingly, 15 years before. Don Mattingly was not a steroid user.

Maybe Helton took steroids, maybe he didn't. He's innocent until proven guilty.

I never heard of Helton being on the steroid list. Where did you get that? Most players/experts state he was one of the clean guys all along!

Dude you would have to be blind not to see his arms swelled up to the size of Sammy Sosa when he was hitting 49 homeruns a year. Heltons been on ever list I have ever seen containing the initial 103 names. Over half on the list have been confirmed and nobody else has filed a defamation suit yet.

Dr.Loomis nice detective work. I have enjoyed looking at the different jerseys you have purchased. Keep posting them up when you have time.

We did switch to these in the middle of the 1994 season; however Helton got hurt against Florida and never played again to my knowledge. That was before the switch. So while was on the team technically with these jerseys, he never played a down in this jersey.

Helton was hurt against Mississippi State in the 4th game of the year. Manning started the rest of the way. According to this website:

Helton played in 5 games. So he must have played in one of the late season games in mop up duty. Perhaps in that jersey...

Tennessee did torch Vandy that season and that's one of the games where UT wore that style according to DeerPark.

Helton dressed for every game. He may not have actually played, but to qualify as "game worn" a player needs only to have suited up in the jersey, which he would have in the South Carolina and Vanderbilt games.
