"Earlier this month, Helton became the 96th player in major league history to reach the 2,500-hit milestone. According to the Rockies, he joins Hall of Famer Stan Musial as the only players in major league history with at least 2,500 hits, 550 doubles, 350 home runs and a .310 or higher career batting average."

Todd Helton who was the QB that put Peyton Manning on the map is retiring from MLB. He has had a solid career as a baseball player and I'm sure all Vols wish him well in retirement.

Solid? More like outstanding. Only one other player in all of baseball history achieved the same results.

Not only was he a former Vol, he's a former hometown guy as well. Played at Central High school in Knoxville.

Almost forgot he played QB, and I was at UT, when he played, LOL! Great career. Cheers!

Damn, I feel old.

Is Todd a Hall of Famer?

I seriously doubt he will make it into the hall.

Even though he had really great number, even won a batting title. But he played in an era with some all-time great first basemen. I doubt his numbers at THAT position will be good enough to secure entry into the HoF.

But I will always cherish my Todd Helton signed baseball bat.

He never cheated, so maybe he will get in.

I have to tell this story every time Todd Helton comes up...when I was 12 or so, Central High came to Oak Ridge to play us in baseball. My Dad took me, and pre-game Helton was stretching and took an errant throw right to the dome, knocking him unconscious. It was vicious. We thought we had just seen him die. He ended up hitting a home run (maybe two). He was "as advertised".

Also, I loved watching him close games at UT. As I recall they'd bring him out of RF (and sometimes 1B) and he would just zip it past dudes, striking out the side.

He was one of the most clutch players I've ever seen in any sport. It's a shame that he never had the opportunity to play for a really great team but I respect the hell out of him for sticking with one team throughout.

Doubt it.

He has a good chance - since voters have been ignoring the cheaters that were once a lock to get in -- chances are he gets alot of votes that they were going to get -- If Ron Santo got in Helton will too.

Me too, which is weird since I'm actually a year younger than Todd himself. I still remember seeing him hobble off the football field at Mississippi St. on crutches thinking how screwed we were that we were going to have to rely on two freshmen to get us through the rest of that season. I think that one Manning kid turned out ok, though.
