What did Chizik and Saban do in their second year?

I forget.

ok except bama had the talent just not the coaching until that point. and auburn had cam newton. we dont have the talent, or the loaded first recruiting class, or a cam newton. nice try though.

Who was that guy Chizik had as QB? Oh yeah, Cam Newton. The same guy that stepped in for a crappy Carolina team in the NFL and threw for 400+ yards in his first 2 rookie starts.

Nice try. Hoping that was pure sarcasm.

just tired of excuses. Almost every word hayezb post is laden with the truth. Good excuses or not, moral victories don't cut it.

There were a lot of positives. Bray had almost 300 yards passing and 3 tds when everybody knew he was going to throw it. The defense showed signs of greatness, and our fr lb look like they are going to be great if they can stay in position.

The rushing totals and kicking game is inexcusable. You guys have fun making excuses and claiming moral victories.

FYP. Everything I said was true.

Is the team, at this point in the season, better than last year's team??? Absolutely. So quit your foolish rants against excuses and moral victories. Being able to point to tangible improvement from one season to the next is a real accomplishment and means we are heading in the right direction. You can b*tch and moan all you want about how long it is taking, but it doesn't change the fact that it is a process with several difficult and painful steps, not a magical cheat code that you plug into your PS3. If it is going to give you an aneurysm to follow this team, then I suggest finding a more suitable hobby that will appease your pathetic and whiney attitude.

....but...but...the cupboard wasn't bare, there was stability, Fulmer ran the team to the ground, yada, yada, yada...

You are about to hear alot more excuses. And the 09 UF games was a legit moral victory. It doesn't count as a loss. Hell this year they didn't give up, so it shouldn't count in the loss column either.

While excuses aren't acceptable, there is a difference between excuses and facts. Saying that Dooley should have the same type of success as Saban and Chizik did in their second year overlooks the types of situations they came into.

For them, they were experienced and talented in all the right places. UF is loaded in the front seven, especially their DL. Saban had the convenience of an experienced QB and OL/DL. Dooley had a QB who had never taken a snap at UT and 2 OL the same along with 3 walk ons in the starting 22.

Yeah, that's the same.

Dooley isn't making excuses and while some people are, we also recognized a rebuilding process when we see one because the "greatest coach in our programs history" had allowed the ship run aground. Kiffin then took over, loaded it with explosives and blew it to smitherines, then Dooley steps on board and looks around and some fans are wondering "why haven't you won yet?"

What did Fulmer do in his second year? He started 1-3 with losses to a sucky UCLA team, got shut out by UF in an embarrassment, then lost to lowly Miss St and barely beat an less than average Wash St team. In his 2nd year mind you.

Anyway, this thread has turned into the same trash that all the other threads have. Let's get it back on track.

Dooley yelling at the team may give these guys the kick in the pants that they've been needing. Give them some urgency.

I'm all for the coach yelling to get the point across to his team. I agree with someone who posted earlier that Hunter should rip into the team as well!

I'd be VERY curious to compare recruiting classes in CDD's first 3 seasons with Fulmer's 1st 3. To me, this will be the biggest factor in whether or not we can expect similar results.

Good grief. You guys sound like Lucy just yanked the football away. Dooley is not worried about his job. And yes while some of the sh** that happened at Florida can be blamed on the coaches, most of it can be blamed on execution. Our offensive game plans have sucked for a while. If anybody should be worried about his job, I would think it would be the offensive coordinator. Even Bray can take the game plan only so far.:loco:

Not only this but he needs to give the Oline and Chaney a kick in the balls. The DL of FL was out the skull fn our RB's and QB's and our OL was standing around looking. If you got a DL guy laying on your QB or RB and your standing there looking at them then you need benched immediately. Get him the h*ll off your guy. I hope they had tackling drills all day long for he defense while they were at it.

Lets be honest folks. With the size of our o line, there should be holes to run through. Let's be honest !!!!

This is just speculation on my part, but do you think that we may have been so invested in hunter, hunter and rogers, and the passing offense that way too much has been put into it and into pass blocking while neglecting run blocking? I think it's possible that the coaches saw the passing game as our best chance at being good this year and now that hunter is out they'll have to go back to the drawing board. The only bright side is at least we've got some time to figure it out.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us run 50 times against buffalo & keep the starters in 4 quarters or at least 3. Not that we're not gonna rely on the pass anymore just to make a statement. The o-line & rb's need to step & see who wants to play.

I agree with this. When you do several things, but you do one thing very well, it's the one you go with. This passing game has been hyped since last year, so it's no surprise that they block well in the passing game. These guys need some intensity to their game. They're getting better, but they still hesitate and play like they're afraid, all of them. I just think if they went out and played with more aggression and intensity they would be better. I hate Florida, they still suck in my opinion, but they play with intensity and confidence and it shows.

Again, the fact that my post went right over your head isn't surprising in the least. Who is b*tching about how long it is taking? I am b*tching about the excuses and moral victories (ie...we are better than last year, team didn't give up, YEAH!).

Loss is still a loss, we lost to UF by the same story (kicking game, rushing game) no matter how you guys want to paint it. You act like it is some great thing that the team didn't give up. I agree, great. We had -7 yards rushing and a blocked punt.

Reading this thread I'd hate to be DD or that team right now. Lot to figure out and 2 weeks to do it.

One thing have yet to figure out, (the whole team) is the effort needed to win! They are all young, there is no senior leadership that knows how to win to show them. It's a problem as old as football itself. When these kids figure it out, they will be awesome! Coaching can only get it so far, the players have to do it themselves. There's a difference in " playing not to lose and playing to win"! It takes time!

If this wasn't college and had such strict practice regulations, it wouldn't have surprised me if CDD had this team on Florida Field immediately after the game with a whistle, making them run suicides and yelling "AGAIN!!!" "AGAIN!!" "AGAIN!!"
Suicides are Basketball and Hockey. Gasers are Football. And yes they should have ran them after the game on Saturday. Especially the O-line and defensive players. GBO!
