... my statement concerning the pressure on CLK to win early, what do you think now? One loss and those "fans" are already coming out of the woodwork. What do you think those blaming it all on Crompton will do when he's gone? How will they react if two highly rated recruiting classes don't produce wins against top opponents?

I have little respect for fair weather fans and I'm not blind to them. CLK has to win sooner rather than later or else he'll go the way of Fulmer and then "Welcome to the coaching carousel."

Kiffin has 3-4 years minimum. Who cares what comes out of the Fulmer fanatics?

well said. although i'm one of those impatient fans. it's hard to be really excited when you look as bad as we did saturday. i think if we had lost and played well it would be different.

Kiffin gets a two year mulligan right off the bat. Relative improvement in 2011 and maybe 2012, and then to start winning big after that. It would be the height of idiocy to run him off before he's had four years with the program.

Most of the fan reaction that I have seen is Crompton fatigue. Lets face it, we all have a touch of that. Otherwise, PJ hit the nail on the head.

I think there is more pressure to show improvement than win games. I personally am not going to judge CLK until he has restocked the bare cupboard that CPF left him. I think the team should be respectable by 2011.

What would the same "fans" be saying about Saban and Carroll after year 1? Some people are just impatient.

Me too. How can you really appreciate the highs if you've never endured and supported your team through the lows? It's the sports fan equivalent to fast food... :birgits_giggle:

No one. There's not now enough of them to make a difference and in two years virtually no one would want him back.

The ones I'm talking about are those shallow fans who can't see past Crompton now and don't care to be educated. Someone willing to call a 22 year old kid "Crapton" because they aren't satisfied with the way he QB's will be patient enough to let a highly paid staff have 3 mediocre seasons before they start competing? That's much less likely than UT beating UF this weekend. They blast off at the mouth knowing very little... but they're still LOUD.

What you are seeing is the "character" of many Vol "fans"... They will only multiply if their expectations for CLK aren't met.

Those people are not fans. They don't understand that the OL got owned most of the game. No QB was going to have a shot with that OL play on the last drive. They're idiots and don't have a clue.

Personal Anecdote: When I lived in MO I flew my UT flag all Fall. Had a guy move in 4 doors down, who saw mine and put his up. Started wearing his UT stuff and talking crap to all the neighbors (K-state, Mizzou, Nebraska, LSU fans etc.). First game we lost, he took his flag down. Never did like that jerk.

Screw fair weather fans - let them go root for Bama, cause Bama is the promised land for fair weather fans.

An outing like the one against UCLA is disappointing but not a surprise...we all knew this could happen. If we have another one of those game 2 years from now there will be some clamoring, but until then let Kiffin do his job. IMO he should get a minimum of 4 years to right the ship.

Huh? You'd rather the Vols be so bad that even if they played their best they still couldn't beat a team like UCLA? Seems like that'd be even more cause for concern.

Even though we threw away an easy win last week I love everything I have seen from CLK so far.
Players are playing harder than ever the D is great. We just need a QB that is not color blind.
I think Kiffen is going to let Crompton play this week and if he completely fails then he will make a switch!
Overall I think he has us headed in the right direction and faster than we should be.

Um... there are 7 million reasons as to why Coach Kiffin will be around for a while.

Fairly certain that goes down each year.

But if those "idiots" stop filling seats at Neyland, buying UT gear, sending in donations, watching the Vols on TV, stop visiting places like this, etc.... then $7 million won't be an obstacle... nor will Hamilton's buyout.
