So would you rather have Gruden or Cowher for 4-5mil a year and a average staff or kiffin for 2.5mil and easily the top 5 recruiting and coaching staff in the nation?
Ill take this staff!
They woould have never been able to put this staff together!!
Truth is with Davis', Cowher's and Gruden's coaching experience and NFL connections, they could have assembled a quality staff as well.Would we have Monte, probably not he's not any of their fathers.
We aren't going to know for 2-3 years how this plays out, once all these great recruiters can start getting us top recruits and turn them into SEC caliber and Nationallly competetive teams.
But this simply started as a response to who's eating crow, and I say it's way too early to say that.
51 weeks ago, everyone's excited about a new Offensive coordinator, he said all the right things in his press conference's. Words thrown around to describe him:
smart, intelligent, brillant offensive mind, potential HC
and we see how that turned out
Butch Davis does not have a staff that is close to ours now even if you remove Monte! Bill Cowher turned us down just like he has turned down numerous NFL teams lately. Jon Gruden is just a figurehead and turned us down and would not have been able to get some of the coaches we have now.
The probably not because Monte is not one of their fathers comments wreaks of jealousy of either a non 100% Vol fan or possibly a Fulmerite with sour grapes.
I was not excited about the Clawson hire and suspected it would either be Fulmers death sentence or his scapegoat. Trying to switch an offense with players recruited for a non spread offense to a spread was insane and PF should have known better. I will take the accolades being thrown at our current staff by people with more clout then PF or University of Richmond.
Does our current staff make us destined to be great? only time will tell but I for one like our chances much better then I did over the previous staff or if we would have hired Butch Davis or Brian Kelly, who both are good coaches but the staff would have not been as impressive. Great position coaches/recruiters is something that has been missing on the hill for years.
I don't see Davis with an equivilent staff. At this point the hiring may not be better than Butch, but at the very least it is a push.
Once Garner is back in Orange, it will be hard to listen to anyone knock the Kiffin hire.
If the staff ends up as good as people think it may, he may be as good of a hire as Davis or better. The Browns and Jets weren't good enough for Cowher. Gruden already has a job at a high level, and he seems fine there.

I need a translator for that statement.

The common measuring stick for coaches, their record says they are better
