And what was the violation? Parking in a handicapped spot.

So selling loose cigarettes, busted taillights, rolling stops, illegal lane changes, flipping the bird, eye rolling, and now parking in a handicapped spot is worthy of police abuse.

The thing is he had a valid handicap tag. The cop just took it upon himself to start deciding who should and should park in handicap spots.

13 minutes of going back and forth and 2 cops tied up from catching murderers, banksters, fraudsters, thieves and other real criminals. I'm not a big fan of these handicapped spots anyways...

What do you mean exactly? I have a niece Ina wheelchair and an elderly mother with RA. What's the problem with having handicapped parking spots for those that truly need them. I'm not a big fan of those that take advantage of the tags and etc.

That's ridiculous.....there are people that play the system but there are plenty that have disabilities that are not able to be noticed with the eye test....that cop needs to be written up and on desk duty for awhile.

Can you think of any other job that wouldn't fire you for questioning someone's handicapped status before damaging their property?

Keep in mind this guy's handicap stems from an ied that gave gave a tramauric brain injury and left him in in a coma for for two months while he was in Iraq "defending our freedom." Now I don't worship our military but most people in our society do*.

I have no doubt that I do this to someone in the parking lot of where I work, I'm not only immediately fired but probably arrested as well.

*Our society likes to think they support the military/vets, but that's nothing more than a fantasy. We immortalize them if the die at war or are shot by lunatic in a shopping mall, but nobody seems to give a s*** about the 22 who kill themselves every day. Many also think that number could be as a high as 30 (which would be a rate about 6 times higher then the average citizen). 128k veterans have killed themselves since 9/11. Just over 5k have died in combat. In the week following the shooting here in Chattanooga, around 150 veterans (speaking strictly on averages) committed suicide. I don't recall hearing a word about it, didn't see any parades or memorials, and not a single person whining the flags weren't at have mass. At what point did those guys/gals (also women veterans are three times more likely to commit suicide then males) stop mattering to the society who claims to worship them?

On top of that, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Debelooment reports 49,933 veterans are homeless on a given night. Meaning that most nights, we have about 50k veterans sleeping on the streets.

Either way I'm honestly not trying to derail the thread so I'll stop.

But we have to follow them regardless, right?

i guess your parents never had you do something you didn't understand and hated doing, and then years later it all made sense? not saying government = parents but that sometimes there are hidden reasons that we don't know/can't understand, at least at the time. also not saying 100% of laws make sense, just saying don't be surprised when you are punished for breaking them. you should be complaining about the law, not the punishment. when you complain about punishment/cops enforcing it makes it sound like you are cherry picking, when you can argue against specific laws at least there is a real point of reference.

Why are you not a fan of handicapped spots?

probably because with most things he has never experienced the other side. he is all equality until it hinders him in some way, government brutality that he has to walk farther just so some guy in a wheel chair can get out of the van, heinous abuse of government power.

I don't disagree with handicap spots in principle but don't think they should be enforced through law. If I own a business I should be allowed to place as many spots (including zero) as I desire and if I feel they're being violated then I, as the owner of the property, can have the car towed.

The ADA, Americans with Disabilities act, is a complete joke

I feel they should be supported by the law and if you park in one while not being handicapped then you should get your a$$ kicked.

I love going to the gym and seeing some rich 50 YO guy get out of his corvette in the handicap spot and go use the treadmill. Classic.

I agree with this 100%. The government has no right dictating to private business owners how they should run their business.

If the gym isn't happy with this situation, as the owner of the property, they should have the corvette towed. Totally not a situation the government needs to be involved in.

I do think it is important to take care of the ones less fortunate than ourselves.....it does go way overboard with the stupid swimming pool adjustments....that's ridiculous

Government mandate isn't the only way to take care of the less fortunate....it's not even a righteous way.
