You mean you've read through most of the stories in this thread and are surprised that a cop would act like this?
I know myself that I've posted at least one story out of NYC where a cop tried to shoot a dog on a congested sidewalk with kids around.
Serious question here. Don't all officers carry pepper spray as well? Wouldn't that have been the more logical route?
I'm stunned here. Completely unnecessary imo.
I think they do but even that would have been a bit much. It was a 26 lb Doberman for god's sake. Who would even think about shooting it? That thought literally wouldn't even enter my mind. If we were talking about a 170 lb pit bull, though I would still fundamentally disagree it's okay to shoot someone's dog in their own back yard, I could at least understand. This is just mind boggling to me. That guys a complete coward. Sorry but that's pretty undeniable.
My dog, whom I'd had for about 8 years, got hit by a car this past New Year's Eve. Now keep in mind I'm not even a dog person. In fact, that dog kinda got on my nerves. Even still, it was a massive punch to the gut for own entire family. I mean, I was pretty depressed for a few months about it. And that's for a dog that I didn't even like that much.
The point of saying all that is there's no way I would that to somebody unless I honestly felt I had no other option. It appears as though, with that particular cop, lethal force is basically option A. I don't think that cop is evil, he may be a good guy for all I know. But that video, IMO, is more than enough evidence for me to comfortably say that he doesn't need to be a cop. There's no way I would want him in my neighborhood.
Well wtf is everyone else doing? That video doesn't tell the whole story. Ras says the cop could have easily seen if he had a weapon in his pocket yet he had no idea wtf kind of pants the guy had on.
It's ok to make fair assumptions if you don't act on them but you went from a silly semantic argument to an argument based on guesses. You're trying way too hard and your bias is leading you around by the nose. He's a ****ty neighbor? Come on. What is that?
I would never use commercial success as a yardstick, as most people have simple, unrefined tastes. It's no secret. This is why Taylor Swift, Lil Wayne, and Justin Bieber are all chart toppers. It's why Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean are the apex predators of country music right now.
I put some stock, however, in critical acclaim, but it's heavily dependent on the source. I prefer critics who were/are musicians, composers, or producers to some degree. As a musician, I hear songs differently than those who aren't. I hear time signatures, changes in tempo, changes in key, and the overall structure of a song. As a writer, I also listen to lyrical content (this makes it much easier to appreciate good hip hop).
Factoring in those things, most popular music is bland, unoriginal, and caters to simple ears. Sure, it has its role (I drink ****ty American "lite" beer at sporting events and camping trips, because it has its role as such), but I don't consider it good from an artistic standpoint. It takes no risks, and therefore, yields no progress.
If you listen to Scott, his first 4 solo albums are incredible, and anything with the Walker Bros. is outstanding. I'll admit that he got a little avant garde for my taste after the 80's. He kind of went insane.
I agree with that for the most part.
I listened to some of Mr Walker's stuff. Not really my cup of tea, but he does have a big voice. I think he wasn't really doing much different than Sinatra, but with a lesser band. Not saying he was bad or anything, I'm just not into crooners. Unless I was listening to the wrong stuff....
And speaking of hip hop, can a white boy "sing" hip hop in public? Some clown got on the subway in LA today blasting his Walmart speaker, and every other word was "ni99ah" this and "ni99ahs everywhere". I will probably get censured for writing that here, but those were the lyrics that were being performed which makes censure wrong in my opinion. Since the N word is off limits for white people, how can we "enjoy" the music?
I censored myself, but I honestly do not understand this. Is the music designed to be inherently controversial by eliciting racist lyric from non black people?
BTW, sorry about your dog man. Lost one that was hit by a car a few years ago. It sucks.
Yeah... It was totally one of those situations where I didn't realize how important she was until she was gone. We got her just before my first daughter was born. Even though she basically got on my nerves, for some reason she loved me to death. She followed me around the house, would always come and sit in my lap every time I sat down, and sleep around my feet each night. TBH, I think that's why she got on my nerves so bad. I couldn't turn around without almost tripping over her.
I knew I'd be sad, but I honestly thought it would be a relief when she died (as cold-hearted as that sounds). That couldn't have been further from the truth. I was heart-broken.
So like I said... I'm certainly not doing that to somebody unless I absolutely have to. In fact, in the case of a 26 lb Doberman, I might would let it bite me before I shoot it.
Listen man. I'll 100 percent agree there are bad cops. But you will go on a limb at any instance to paint any cop regardless of actions as a bad cop without knowing the full story. This one is cut and dry.
Well wtf is everyone else doing? That video doesn't tell the whole story. Ras says the cop could have easily seen if he had a weapon in his pocket yet he had no idea wtf kind of pants the guy had on.
I said it was a guess.... I also said he may have a crappy neighbor that calls the cops on him. I based this on him standing in the driveway filming a cop. Who does that unless they've had prior issues? He even asked the cop of he knew who he was....
The cop isn't without fault in this
Man, the guy was loading/unloading his boat in his driveway. he wasn't looking to have a damn shootout with the fuzz that day. Any idiot could see that. And so what if he had a gun or not and had his hand in hiss pocket? heks on his own damn driveway minding his own business! The cop obviously didnt see any criminal activity, else, he wouldnt have felt frisky enough to snap pictures in front of his house and then get out of his SUV and approach this allegedly armed civilian in such a reckless manner as he did. that cop knew good and damned well he wasnt in any danger, he was just pushing that guys buttons (are. you a constitutionalist or one of those crazy people). That cop needs fired. Period. And loss of pension. That may send a message to these clowns to actually treat unarmed civilians with the same kind of decency and respect that they think they deserve. But no cop deserves more respect than the people that he is supposed to serve and protect and that pay his salary.
F^^k that cop!
