As an example, I'll point back at the cop in Florida who pulled the kid over for the middle finger. That's exactly what I'm talking about. That particular incident wasn't necessarily a big deal. What it did though was show us that he didn't mind fabricating probable cause*. Not let's say a couple weeks later that guy is involved in one of these incidents. He's already showed me he's a liar so I can't believe a word he says. Point being... Start flushing guys like that out and maybe I'll start trusting LE again. It'll be better for both parties.
*Volbeast... Let's please skip the BS about the seatbelt. That wasn't why the guy was detained. You know it, I know it, everybody knows it. Can we please skip that song and dance this time?
I actually felt a little out of my comfort zone as an avowed cop hater lol

The point is I have zero and I mean zero problem with what that cop did.....the guy was being a jack&ss and the cop called him on it....he didn't give him a citation, arrest him, beat him, tazer him or anything else....I know u feel it is a stepping stone to the cop doing some of the above but I do not.

So saying "I would want some sort of actual proof that a cop is a cop before I put down my firearm if I was literally just attacked" makes you uncomfortable?
What GV said is about what I would do. I would stay on the line with 911 and ask them to relay on that I am armed and wearing X clothing and ask the dispatch the names of the cops that are responding.
I don't know if a dispatch would do that or if the responding cop would have the patience and respect to acknowledge a homeowners right to defend his home and verify that a police officer isn't an intruder.
That's it.
It's very easy to impersonate a cop and to Hell if a guy is going to roll up in my house and get me to give him the keys to the kingdom simply because he said "I'm a cop".
Because that does happen (albeit not every day):
Home intruders impersonate police officers - FOX 35 News Orlando
Sheriff: Intruders impersonate officers | www.whio.com
Two men arrested for impersonation in the best fake cop car youve ever seen | KFOR.com
Police: Intruders posing as cops - Tucson Citizen Morgue, Part 2 (1993-2009)
It's a bad reality for a home owner, to be honest.
If you are so trained to hear "it's the cops" you just lay down on the ground it's going to be a very bad time if the folks at your door are not cops.
Now, given those instances aren't people coming up to a house right after calling 911... the homeowner was just attacked and exchanged fire.
Some things, as a citizen, do bother me about this and GV did a good job sort of touching on them.
- 911 should have had a description of the homeowner to be relayed to the responding officers
- Homeowner or 911 should have ascertained if the homeowner was himself armed.
Those are obviously critical details that will play a part in my belief system that cops should:
- Survey the scene, ascertain danger, seek to de-escalate the situation and only use lethal force if necessary.
It's a bad situation because, even if the homeowner identified himself as the homeowner... well, certain factors are working against him in this day and age.
And I think that's the other ugly side of the coin that people are squeamish to talk about.
That's not the point I was making. I don't at all think this means he's a killer*. It just means he's set the precedent that he'll bend the truth (that's the nicest way I could put it) to alter the narrative to his liking. So if he's involved in a shooting a few months later with no witnesses, wtf should we take his word about what happened?
*Though he's probably not a killer, he is a douchebag. I watched that video again and f that guy. I sincerely hope he gets gonorrhea.
Also the coward "called him out" with a a group of fellow gang members behind him and did it knowing the guy had no choice but to let him.
Wonder if he'd have the balls to do that minus the badge and backup to somebody who wouldn't be caged if they didn't just let him? I'm guessing not.
