To Protect and to Serve...

GV, I'll be honest and admit that I hate cops a lot. You seem like an alright guy. I don't really agree with you much, but you don't strike me as a domineering azzhole.

I have had three encounteers with law enforcement (not including speeding, etc...).

One was a total jackazz, even though I did nothing wrong.

Another was nicer than I'd like to admit that I deserved, and I definitely should have gone to jail that night.

The last was a complete bastard and told me I'd probably spend 8-10 years in prison, and tried to scare me into confessing to crimes that would f*** me up for the rest of my life.

Is this a large enough sample size to justify my distrust? Should I be glad I got out of a dui when I was younger?

I'd really like to see a perspective from the other side.

So apparently Chicago uses stop and frisk more than NYC was. These damn liberal news outlets are ruining everything.

Pretty soon it won't be legal to stop and fondle young blacks anywhere.

Depends on who you ask on here lol

I honestly can't say you are justified or not as it's really on you to make that determination. Were all three from the same department? I've seen times where it's epidemic throughout a department rather than just centered on one or two individuals. There's a place out here for example that has a reputation for using any tactic they can (and even some that are highly questionable) for a stop. And you get grilled while they do everything in their power to toss you into jail. And that's even other cops as a couple of OKC Metro cops and local sheriffs have been pulled in for highly questionable reasons.

Anyway, depends on your level of "trust" I suppose. Do you trust that if you called and said your riding lawnmower was stolen they'd show up? I mean, thefts of that nature aren't always easy to solve, but do you believe if you called the dispatch they'd send a unit out to take a report? Or if your home was being broken into? Do you trust they'd send units over as quickly as possible? Different levels of trust. You obviously don't trust traffic cops, which isn't uncommon, so I don't add that into a complete "distrust" of anything LEO related.

Two out of three would tend to form a person's opinion a separate way though. So I can see your perspective on the subject.

I can't say that I have had positive experiences with police, I have had some reasonable experiences and down right bad ones. Bad far outweighs the reasonable interactions. The biggest issue I have had lately is getting lectured on driving by a pimply faced little prick. He spoke to me like I was a child and I'm probably old enough to be his dad.

The badge doesn't give you the right to talk to people like dogs.

I've had 2 separate, and many years apart, individuals that I know well join a local PD and neither of them are particularly complimentary of the dept. The first actually quit and joined a different local PD. His assertion as to why was, and I quote, "Those guys are *******s.". The second (actually still current) isn't quite as harsh but he holds a number of his fellow officers in...well...less than high regard.

Mind you I've known both these people for a very long time and, if anything, consider both to be more on the sanguine side of things than having a tendency to complain. If they have a negative take of the people at this PD I'm strongly inclined to believe the criticism is deserved.

QUOTE=Grand Vol;11308068]I didn't miss your point. But I'll have a few questions to ask about this...

In what way are they held accountable? And furthermore, who holds them accountable? When a death occurs in the hospital, it's generally an internal review board correct? How often are those internal reviews referred to a DA for prosecution? Or have legal oversight like LEOs have when they have to use lethal force?

People want to complain about the cops investigating themselves. But I really don't ever hear of too many doctors or other medical professionals going on trial for a patient that's lost because of their mistake.

And again, what "accountability" is that? Loss of license? Loss of position? Criminal trial?

Because I can tell you right now if there's even a hint of impropriety going on during a lethal force usage by a LEO, it's going to go to a grand jury. When's the last time a doctor went before a grand jury when they lost a patient due to their actions?

And that's different than a city doing it when a family brings a suit against them after a LEO shooting?

Let's just call that what it is, it's paying them off. And that's from hospitals to metro/state/federal. Don't try to sugar coat it.

And again, when was the last time a criminal trial was brought forward for medical malpractice? How often does a DA look in on those internal reviews? Or are they allowed to at all?

I wouldn't get too lost in your trip down superior morality lane by thinking the medical profession is some sort of perfect world. They are just as guilty, even more so if even a tenth of the medical malpractice death numbers are accurate. And while I think that 100K might be a big number, I'd have to say it's probably going to be far better odds of getting killed in a hospital than by a cop.[/QUOTE]

While payoff settlements are most common in the healthcare profession I will bring one interesting case to your attention. I can remember when this happened and I was floored that he served time.

This is definitely not the norm for our profession when an unintentional mistake happens.

Stop speeding and you won't have a pimply faced kid lecturing you.

:)

The two bad experiences were the same dpt. I don't live there anymore. I had my home broken into twice when I lived there. After the response I got the first time, I didn't even bother calling the second time.

Like I told the kid, either write the ticket or don't but do not talk to me like a kid.

I'm sure he loved being told by a powerless peasant what to do. Surprised he didn't cuff you right there and bring out the drug dogs to manufacture up some nice probable cause.

Wasn't mad about the ticket, what irked me was the lecture.

I parked on the side of I-40 to go trout fishing years ago . I noticed a trooper standing on the bridge looking down the river my way so I started making my way up to him. As I'm climbing up the bank he asks if that's my car and then proceeded to start talking about the fishing. This guy was probably 50 or so, but had this little sawed off rookie half midget douche with him that kept eyeballing me with his hands on his hips. He looked like a 135 lb drill instructor and definitely had little man syndrome. When he spoke he was the ultimate little a-hole, but the other guy was cool..... A normal guy if you will. He almost seemed embarrassed by the guy as he and I looked at each other a could times after the midget spoke. Had the midget not been there I think I'd have gotten out of the ticket.....I kept thinking to myself " if you weren't a trooper and acted like this to me I'd body slam you"

We've had 4 break-ins in my neighborhood lately. I've been staying up late on the rocking chair, polishing my 9x19. My next door neighbor got her car stolen from her garage. It's a pretty nice neighborhood so this is crazy. Broke into the neighbor's car on the other side, too.

They keep hitting homes. They are going to get popped eventually. Hopefully I'll have good news soon. One of the cops talked to us and he's so pissed they haven't caught the guy(s). Couldn't even figure out how they got in my neighbor's house.

If they aren't caught soon, they'll move on. The smart ones know when the heat comes down and when to get out.

My neighbor just came over asking for a ride (she was the one whose car was stolen). Apparently her grandson was taken from the school by persons unknown. Her daughter's house has been burglarized and her car stolen as well. She said she thinks the ex has the boy. She hadn't made the connection that he would know she's out of town a lot and maybe was the one who hit her house. Sounds like he's off his rocker.

Still, the 3 other break ins are not explained by this theory.

Dude, that is completely insane. Watch your damn back
