Saw the drug task force, I assume that's who they were, with a minivan pulled over and a (assume) mom and two little kids standing in the cold while they were searching.

On I-40 east of Memphis they are doing this crap daily.

Hope they didn't have any cash on them. That's evidence that can be taken, you know. Even if no drugs are found.

I'm on that stretch of road pretty regularly and just waiting for my turn.

You should carry a little baggy of oregano with you and see what happens when it is your turn to stand on the side of the road. Would be an interesting experiment.

That would get him arrested even if they knew what it was. There's some weird law about even carrying items that have the appearance of illegal drugs.

If they search my car those dogs will probably be eating cheerios the whole time

Ahh, but what if he had a jar of ragu and a box of noodles with him too? Now the presence of oregano has some context.

If what is in that story is true....then those cops need to go away for a really long time. I don't know if I agree with your opinion on the drug war.

Nobody will go to jail. Paid leave for everyone while it is investigated. Dead guy's family might win a civil suit, but nobody will see a jail cell I bet. Everyone involved goes on living under the illusion that we are free individuals in a tyranny free society.

I'm sorry but giving the government the ability to bust in your house for drugs, which puts your life at risk as well as the police officers, is outrageous to me. Stop trying to regulate what people do in their OWN homes with their OWN bodies. Police officers should be protecting citizens from criminals not drug users. With meth being the exception.

It will effect other people though.....right now it stays in their homes bc of threat of the police....It may not make adifference but heavy drug users are scary people.

I don't agree with what he cops did in this instance though.

Attorney: Hooks shot in the back and head during raid

I really wish our country would stop using our police force to go after drugs or drug users. When will this **** stop? STOP MURDERING PEOPLE over drugs or drug use.

I was reading this earlier. It's difficult to understand why didn't an investigation begin looking into this matter first rather than taking the word of a known drug addict and habitual criminal who was just trying to cover is a** with a false claim of finding meth?
The sheriff's office obtained a search warrant based on a tip from a thief who claimed he had found 20 grams of methamphetamine inside a bag he stole from a vehicle at Hooks' home, Georgia station WMAZ reports. According to the warrant, Rodney Garrett claimed that he thought the bag was filled with cash but that he later discovered it contained meth. Garrett said that he then turned himself into the sheriff's office because the drugs made him fear for his safety.Garrett, a known drug abuser, also stole a second vehicle, a SUV, from the Hooks home.

Who makes the laws in your tyranny free society?

Those individuals that their life is consumed with drug use are dangerous to others. Their sense of reality isn't the same as ours. There is plenty of video evidence on youtube (of all places) if additional proof is required for anyone thinking otherwise.

Yep I have seen a lot of people do some crazy things after getting hammered. It's not the substance, it's the USER. Outside of meth of course. I just do not believe our approach to substances in this country has done anything positive for the users and the general public.

Yep, that's why breath analyzing tests for vehicles would be a great first step in saving lives.

Not really. Most of the time they leave people alone and want to be left alone. You hear about the ones that lost their job cause they failed a test and then they stole a car stereo to feed their addiction. You don't hear about the ones that get home from work and sit on a bean bag all night, not hurting anybody.

If they don't lose their job, they don't get desperate. Legalizing takes care of a lot of the problems associated with drug use.

That's what I've always wondered. I'm no expert but seriously if you step back and look at what we do to people that use a substance. A substance that may or may not ever harm any other human but the user.

So lets see. If we take away having to go through sketchy drug dealers. Maybe that would cut into the murders going on in our cities by small time crooks just trying to make a living. Then add in the money that goes into investigating and then arresting some and ruining their life by giving them a criminal record. Which ensures they never have a job or future. Which leaves them broke, with no job, and desperate. Add in the fact that most come from a less than productive up bringing and you have the recipe for a dang desperate career criminal. Just let them use their drugs and provide them with help, not handcuffs or a bullet. End rant.
