Yeah, and it's said that liberty will die to the sound of applause.
So you don't remember the entire congress being on the steps of the Capitol singing god bless America? The propaganda that went on up to the invasion of Afghanistan was sickening. All the talk of "hidden cells" of terrorists inside this country. Yet the CIA knew exactly where all these guys were the whole time. Collectivism and statism are religions in this country.
I'm still confounded about 9/11 and the results. 19 hijackers, 4 planes, 3 hit their targets. The majority of the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, yet we invade Afghanistan. Please note that the Taliban had almost erased poppy production in Afghanistan. What happens after we invade? We start guarding poppy fields. Afghanistan once again becomes the worlds source for poppy. Yet, we have a war on drugs here in the states. God Bless the USA.
We won't even discuss the cf that is Iraq here.
I know, I'll never convince you so, it is what it is.
I did. Read all the way down to where it started talking about ACLU. Then I knew it was something that was good. Truth is you can find dirty laundry in everything.
So you basically read to the point where any issues would be raised and quit? Solid investigative work
Dave it's slightly more complicated than that. But, I'll say that some officers have a great instinct for identifying smugglers. Usually these people are identified and are urged to teach. When they teach they generally give examples of some of the indicators they have encountered. But, there is no replacement for instinct which cannot be taught. Some of these guys just have a knack or as I've noticed they have the gift of gab. They can just talk people into telling them what they need to know. There is no denying that interdiction is money driven and sometimes local and state agencies will just assign an officer willy nilly to interdiction not taking into account his observation abilities. I think a smart thing to do would be to allow these officers who have the talent form a panel to identify others before allowing them to become interdiction officers. So you think all of this is suspicious behavior and grounds for a vehicle search even when some of the criteria is contradictory to other criteria.
Black Asphalt: The Black Asphalt Electronic Networking & Notification System is used to share reports of traffic stops, most related to drug enforcement, among member law enforcement officers and agencies across the country. Indicators that made police suspicious have included:
Dark window tinting
Air fresheners or their smell
Trash littering a vehicle
An inconsistent or unlikely travel story
A vehicle on a long trip that is clean or lacks baggage
A profusion of energy drinks
A driver who is too talkative, or too quiet
Signs of nervousness, such as sweating, swallowing or redness of face
Designer apparel or other clothing that seems inappropriate
Multiple cellphones
No I read the article. I just have no issue with sharing information. I also said that every endeavor has it's problems, but I really give two craps less about a smuggler as long as the traffic stop is legitimate. The officer's do not create the laws they use the laws for a greater purpose.
If our very own Federal agencies would've shared information to this level me may have thwarted 911, but because some people don't like LEO's bragging to each other they would prefer to drain the lake to save the puppy.
I'd settle for holding cops to the same standard civilians are held to. Make cops personally liable for injuries to person and property when found to be in error.
I bet a hell of a lot more care will be taken then before barging into the wrong house at 3am.
Tax free.
How anyone is upset because LE is getting smarter has an agenda.
Problem is they are abusing the law. They are not just seizing from drug dealers, they are seizing from innocent people and then fighting tooth and nail to keep what they took.
No assets or possessions should be subject to seizure prior to conviction!
Not saying it does not happen, I will say it seldom happens. Someone will say that once is too much and I tend to agree, but then I'll say that when humans are involved nothing is perfect.
Also, generally speaking, it takes some type of probable cause to seize a large amount of money from someone during an interdiction stop. This probable cause has to be heard before a judge within a few days of the seizure and has to be approved, then there is a hearing down the road. It's my understanding that it is not just a rubber stamp to get the judge (in a court of record) to approve a seizure. So if someone is traveling down the road with 15k and is heading to buy a car he shouldn't have any problems. What gets money seized is when asked they will deny being in possession of a large amount of currency and when it's located they will deny it is theirs.
Why is this even a subject of debate?
