I've gotten approximately 10 traffic citations in my life. Two of which I was young and stupid and was actually driving dangerously. I have no issue with those. All the others were instances where my actions weren't remotely close to dangerous and I absolutely should have been left alone.

Most were speed related. Like I said, with the exception of an early few it was nothing even reasonably close to dangerous.

I got one for a rolling stop. It was around 1 am and I had ensured no one was coming before pulling out. I didn't completely stop though. Pretty sure that one was $70.

One for a seatbelt. That one was only $10 but I was stopped for almost 30 minutes and the cop was probably the rudest I've ever encountered.

One of the speeding ones I got hit with not having the right papers. Didn't have proof of insurance. I had insurance, mind you. Just didn't have a piece of paper saying I did. Seems irrelevant right? Nope... That one you have to go to court and prove you had insurance. I had to miss a day of work to do that.

That's the problem.....speeding is the number one cause of traffic fatalities in America and one of the leading causes of death.....if u have had defensive driving classes like I have for my numerous speeding tickets then u would know how excessive speed lowers your reaction time when things go wrong around u...

As for the rolling stop....just last night someone made a rolling stop in roane county and didn't see the other car coming and hit them in the side ramming their car into a tree killing a one yr old...how can a cop judge if u looked both ways while running the stop sign?

As for not having your insurance card....who doesn't know that u have to have a drivers license registration and your insurance card on u at all times.....wallets even come with slots made specifically for them....it sounds like u cost yourself a days pay not the cops.....The law is that way so that when u speed, make rolling stops, and any other unsafe actions that the other party that u hit will be covered.

I do think States take the insurance one too far. Here in Oklahoma you have to have a paper copy in your vehicle. Not the copy on your phone, but an actual paper copy.

I think you should have it. As well as proof, but I think a day in court is a little extreme for not having a paper copy.

In Georgia it's all on a database the officer can access. You don't have to carry a card.

Yeah as long as u have proof should be all that's needed.....I'm glad they have that law after being hit by a couple of people that didn't have insurance.

Also didn't realize my insurance didn't pay if I didn't have that paper in my pocket when the wrecked happened. That's crazy...

That depends on the State though. Here in Oklahoma, I can tell if the have insurance by running their tag. It will also tell me for Texas. However, you're still required to have a paper copy.

I know this is crazy but doesn't stopping increase the likely hood that u were being safe.......I'm happy for the safety laws bc it increases the chances my family will make it home safe. I have been pulled over going 96 in a 65 and 93 in a 55..... I always thought I was driving safely too. LOL

Yeah I wish all state laws were the same.....we got a trailer citation going through Virginia bc the laws there were different than Tennessee.....I felt like these other guys do toward cops that day. Lol

Not necessarily. Many times it's absolutely necessary. Many times, like the described incident, I was 100% able to see nothing was coming by merely slowing down.

They're called tourist tickets. They know you won't come back and fight it although you'd likely get it stricken from your record.

I've got a couple of those myself.

Just last night someone did that and killed a one yr.....isn't enforcing that law important?

Nothing pisses me off more than sitting at a red light at 2am with no other traffic on the road. Shouldn't they roll to a caution light after a set time, say midnight?

In Georgia you're not required to carry one but obviously if you leave the state you'll need something as many other states don't have access to the database.
