To Protect and to Serve...

They did however get part of this right, they held the training at an empty facility. Perhaps having this training on the weekend when no one is at the school nearby would be a better idea.

I do understand the need for proper training.

Edit: school location. Point stands however.

That helps the police, talking about doing drills on weekend, and is probably a good idea, but at some point the students have to do the drill as well, and the police have to have real life students there to be able to get a real practice run.

i can get up and give a great speech to an empty room all i want, it doesn't make me a better public speaker.

I see your point. Although I'm not sure bringing a bunch of heavily armed guys through an elementary school ( as was the case of the nearby school i posted) will help the kiddies much. Probably only serve to traumatize them.

Sooner or later we have to admit this is a rare occurrence. It's nice to have a plan in place, but I'm not sure that really helps anything. At the end of the day the cop is there to fill out a report. Rarely do they actually stop crime from being committed, especially something as rare as a school shooting.

I'd like to see schools be able to have their own private security force to respond to threats. Not having to rely on the local police at all.

I would think if the kids knew in advance it wouldn't be a big deal. I'd figure most would think it was kind of neat watching the tactical stuff. Like I said before, an announcement prior to would certainly be in order.

I agree with the second portion, but also would add the local LEO force to be a backup. Many schools likely couldn't afford a full time armed officer. Or if they could, not enough to adequately cover the school.

Another solution which would benefit budgets all around would be to get rid of the foolish "Gun free zones" and let the teachers that want to carry a gun do so.

As we know, the only thing that stops a guy with a gun is another person with a gun.

Que the liberals screaming that it will be the gunfight at the ok corral rubbish.

Thank you William Jefferson Clinton, icon of the Democratic Party...

Is it a matter of having the gun around the kids in general or would it be 'better' if they went in with no ammo at all. I think that could be a reasonable substitute. let the cops have their guns, but no magazines or bullets. no risk of kid getting shot, but cops still get to clear corners with extended barrels.

to your second point its as GrandVol already said, damned if you do, damned if you don't. police get hosed if they have no plan and something happens. kids get scared, at high school age hopefully no kids are getting traumatized by the site of a gun, if the cops practice.

I would agree that in a lone gunman situation yeah the cops probably aren't going to get there in time, but what if its a kid (or group) that brings a bag full of ammo and wants to have a reckoning?

indeed, I remember being excited as heck when they brought the emergency response people by school so that the kids could crawl around their vehicles and get a look at the equipment. give me the opportunity and I would still love to explore a fire truck, and I think most people would agree.

Oops, just an "accident". How about you keep your muzzle down and dick beater off the trigger?

What would happen to Joe Citizen if he was out playing cowboys and indians and accidentally shot someone to death?
NYPD rookie calls fatal shooting of unarmed man an ‘accident’ | New York Post

What would happen? He'd be tried for murder and probably receive the death penalty.

“The deceased is a total innocent who had just happened to be in the hallway at the same time as the cops,” Bratton said. “The deceased was not engaged in any activity other than trying to enter the stairwell.”
Yeah, that was worth dying for. Chickensh*t cop.

I saw a stat that said the NYPD had a bigger budget than all but 21 (approx.) national militaries in the world. They're going to shoot a few innocent people. Compared to most militaries, they are doing pretty good. LMAO

What does it matter as long as the cop goes home right? #CopLogic
