I have been a construction worker for 26 years. Started at 15. Full time year round at 17..so i guess later this year at 42yo i will have 25 years straight full time. I thank my guys all the time for their hard work. I thank veterans and good cops for their service, too. Most are good. I have done many things to provide for my family that fall on the stupid side of the brave/stupid line...on roofs, 60ft ladders, wiring new circuits still "hot" etc... bravery is somewhat common. Cops and soldiers sometimes encounter situations beyond bravery...into the area of Heroism. That is when they sacrifice, or attempt to sacrifice, their lives to save or protect others. The vast majority of Heroes are dead or crippled. That gets my heartfelt respect and admiration. Not all cops or soldiers are heroes...but unless i know different, i will treat them with my utmost respect until they force me to do otherwise...which very rarely happens. FWIW, I have had a very adventurous life and should have died several times. I have "stood in the gap" when many men wouldnt have, and have paid heavy prices. I never needed any recognition when i knew i did what was right, and real Heroes dont need it either. Most Medals of Honor are awarded posthumously. For a good reason.
