Yeah, I saw the story on my timeline on Twitter. The Sheriff stated that he continually warned him not to use demeaning or incitful words, among using the SO's star on some items that he was using outside of his LE duties.

It doesn't make him a bad or corrupt cop but it does show a little insubordination on his behalf. I admire him for sticking to his principles and integrity but this job is all about the chain of command. He wasn't asked to resign he was simply asked to fall in line...

I see where he's coming from but still kind of sad.

I've pulled on a dog before...thing was mean as hell but all he was doing was protecting his owners from someone he didn't know. I never pointed the muzzle at anything, just kept it drawn behind my right leg, muzzle pointed to the ground...BUT...I told the dog owner what I was doing before I did it and told them to get the dog before he attempted to bite me.

It wasn't a small dog. I never wanted to shoot it but I was never going to let it attack me. And yes, we're trained to use deadly force in those encounters...dog bites are nothing to F with...but use your discretion and don't draw down on a friggin Yorkie or a dog that's just being friendly.

Some people are just afraid of dogs are overreact.

This relates more to the CJS than it does specifically to law enforcement. I didn't want to start a thread just for this and I didn't know where else to put it, but this is a damn shame.

After Jamycheal Mitchell was arrested for stealing $5 worth of snacks last April, a judge ordered the mentally ill Portsmouth, Va., man to undergo treatment at a state hospital until he was well enough to face trial.

But for four months Mitchell wasted away in a cell at the Hampton Roads Regional Jail. By the time the 24-year-old died Aug. 19, he was gaunt, sickly and had shed at least 36 pounds.

A final report released Monday by a state agency details why the man who suffered from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder never got the help he needed: His case fell into a bureaucratic black hole.
