if you're wanting tears, no he didn't cry. but there sure was a lot of whining about it.

Shocking that you two would take his side.

Sorry Rex, but it's called respect for someone that deserves it. Nothing more. Some here would do well to learn it and use it.

i'm not taking any sides. i just know the whole story firsthand. i didn't even call it undeserved whining. but it did happen. and just as his grandpa would have him do, instead of making a huge deal out of it, he just went out and proved why he should've been taken earlier

So you know Witten's family too? Odd, I've never heard them mention a "bill" from Norfolk.

I'll have to ask about you. We might be closer than we think.

I think you misunderstood the tone of my post.

I was telling Bill he and I might end up being closer to each other than we thought because we apparently have shared friends.

Perhaps there are others on VN who made the same mistake as me.

I'll do what I can to find the underlying civility in all your future posts.

I'm sure there are.

Message Boards are always a bad place for understanding actual intent of the posters. There is little-no emotion in typed words.

I've heard Tom Brady say he thought he should have been recruited more out of high school and that he should have been drafted higher. I don't think that was him whining, he was just stating how he felt. Everyone now pretty much agrees with him.

well... if you paid attention, you'd know i grew up in the tri cities, went to school @ Milligan, was in high school the same time witten was and have several connections. thanks for once again assuming too much there O2

sorry O2. i think it's fairly obvious you had too much malice intent w/ your previous threads, that this current thread made it seem the same way... if you truly weren't being sarcastic about it, i apologize, i didn't read the other posts til later. but to answer your question, no they probably don't know that i'm now in grad school. and dunno how much they would remember me. but several of my friends are close friends w/ all the witten kids and I've been around them growing up some.

If that's the case, why are you so wrong about "Witten crying"?

Like I said, the family was disapointed, but it was no bigger a deal than any other player that doesn't get drafted highly. It wasn't a huge issue with them, like you said, he just went out there and showed everyone that they were wrong for passing on him.

i'm just stating that there was in fact whining about it. There's no denying it. They were pissed, rightfully so and he proved everyone wrong. It was understandably hard to hide the fact he was upset in the interviews and like someone said earlier, it's very common for people to get upset about being drafted later than expected/deserved. now then, for what it's worth, he was most upset immediately after the loss to Maryland in the Peach Bowl. throughout much of the year, he felt like nothing more than a decoy to free up other receivers so they might actually catch the ball. one of the biggest reasons he left UT early, he felt he'd just be even more of a decoy the next year.

So because he was disapointed in his interviews, you are calling that whining?

Interesting.

Just so I'm clear, what does that make what rexvol and others do when every post is attacking Fulmer?

Wouldn't that be whining too?

To be fair, I assume every post I make in defense, is me whining.

I guess when we all take a big deep breath.....we're all whining huh?

yep it pretty much does. Just like the debate i got in the other night about peyton talking to the press about his o-line last yr against pittsburgh and this year's D, sometimes you just gotta keep your mouth shut in front of the press. Just say the cliches like "i'll just go out there and earn my spot like everyone else" it may be crapola and boring, but it works. no one wants to hear what is basically coming out- "well, if they would've drafted me in the first round, i'd be making 5m a year, now i'm barely gonna clear 1m a year"

to be fair, that last part was me whining.

I think it's only whining when your own decision caused the outcome. For example, it wasnt my decision to turn the Vol football program is a bunch of me me-first guys that would rather get arrested than win games, it wasnt my decision to lose to Vanderbilt, so I think Im fully justified in commenting on issues that arise under Fulmer's tenure. Witten on the other hand made his own decision to come out and got a little burned, but his performance on the field will make up for that mistake. If you make the call, be prepared to take what comes with it without crying about it.

He should stay. Rice is the number 30 and he will stay. Meach is where he belongs.....below Rice and still a Vol.
